AFA Claims Responsibility For Ford Sales Slump
A group know for it’s extreme Right wing bias, the American Family Association (AFA), has taken credit for Ford Motor Company’s current sales slump due to their boycott against Ford for supporting the Gay community. The AFA demanded that Ford not only pull its advertising from gay-centric media outlets, but also ending the practice of offering domestic-partner benefits to same-sex couples. Ford ignored AFA’s requests which lead to the now 19 month boycott.
The AFA claimes that, “When the boycott began, Ford was approximately in the same financial condition as that of General Motors and Chrysler. But because of the boycott, Ford is now in much more of a serious financial situation than GM and Chrysler.” To someone that could think for themselves the reason for Ford’s sales decline is easy to understand. A huge reduction in fleet sales (production will stop for two weeks to prevent excess inventory), increased competition, higher gas prices, a weak subprime lending market. All these are reasons why Ford finds itself in the situation it is in today.
Donald Wildmon spits as much rhetoric out to Americans as Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did during his speech at Columbia. It’s all baseless and ignorant with nothing to back it up. Ford’s American division is more than likely in a better position today by ignoring the AFA and doing what their company is supposed to do, which is market their products to Americans.
