A Possible Return For The 4 Cylinder Mustang
Posted on July 14th, 2008 by Brent Wilson and viewed 212 times
According to a source at Garage 419, Ford is considering reviving the 4 Cylinder Mustang in response to the record high gas prices we have seen this year. The 4 Cylinder would be turbocharged thanks to the highly touted EcoBoost and it will be hooked up to a 6 speed manual transmission. Power output is expected at around 300 horsepower which is incredible considering the GT Mustang didn’t start making that much power until 2005. Once thought to be a temporary pain, it’s apparent that four dollar gas prices are sadly something that will be sticking around for quite some time, considering the frenzy the Auto industry is in right now to ditch gas guzzling engines in favor of much more gas friendly, smaller ones.

=( i dont want the mustang to be a 4cyl ricer but i guess thats what the gas prices are doing to it. I take it though that they are keeping the v8.

Ford needs to offer a normally aspirated 4cyl Mustang that delivers some very good EPA numbers ASAP!
Or a High MPG Hybrid version even.
A 300hp, 4 cyl Turbo ought to be VERY low on the priority list.

Well the very First Mustang (drawings by Phil Clark) was actually a V4 and it is still a totally cool car! I would drive it! ….OF Course US DIEHARDS are gonna have a V8 in the Garage ….no matter HOW HIGH GAS PRICES are..but hey… what about a V4 as your second car? I am thinking.. that would be COOL! YEP Maybe they will Revive Phil Clark’s Original Mustang design…with the Emblem on it that he designed. The only remaining one is in the Henry Ford Museum..(it was a rear/or mid engine though..hence the cooling scoops Clark designed for the sides… made it go faster!…they are just for looks now…..bet they could sell Clark’s Original Mustang with Gas prices like they are now!)
