How bad of a shape is Ford in? It seems bad enough that they felt the need to pull over 4,000 employees from their desks at sites near the Dearborn headquarters and onto a test track for a few hours of driving and learning about how Ford hopes to set its vehicles apart from other automakers.

Ford hopes that these test drive sessions will boost employee confidence and they also hope that employees will take their experience and talk it up to potential customers. Before getting to test drive the cars they were briefed by Ford engineers and trainers on how Ford hopes to set it’s self apart from it’s competition by offering sportier cars and a much more appealing interior.

Employees had a chance to test drive the new EcoBoost system that will be offered first on the Lincoln MKS. EcoBoost is a Ford-branded combination of gasoline-injection and turbocharging for up to a 20% improvement in fuel economy. EcoBoost will add an additional $700 dollars to each car that is equipped with it. EcoBoost is expected to be offered on the new V6 Mustang by 2012.

Also available to employees to test out is the much anticipated 2010 Mustang which is set to be unveiled in November at the L.A. Auto Show.
