Historically (all the way back to at least 1972), Ford has sold more Mustangs in the last year of production for a model than the year prior, even when the public knew a new model was being released. More Mustangs were sold in 1973 than in 1972, even though it was known a new model was going to be relesed in 1974. More were sold in 1978 than 1977. More were sold in 1986 than 1985. More were sold in 1993 than 1992. More were sold in 1998 than 1997. More were sold in 2004 than 2003. It makes no sense why Ford would limit 2009 Mustang production to around 45,000 units.
