According to Adam Carolla’s Podcast show ‘Car Cast’ Carroll Shelby is currently developing a twin turbo 1,000 horsepower limited edition Mustang that will no doubt be priced well out of the range of the average Mustang enthusiasts budget. There aren’t any details on the engine used or what kind of modifications will be made to the car now.

The disagreement with SAAC that we reported on a little over a week ago now has a counter as Carroll Shelby has issued a rather extensive statement giving his side of the story and explaining why SAAC’s license with Shelby Automotive will not be renewed when it expires in January. The complete statement is after the fold and if everything holds in the statement it doesn’t look good for SAAC, especially the part about not paying the one dollar licensing fee.

It didn’t take long to get confirmation that the new KITT car would in fact be a Ford Mustang. A picture of the actual KITT car surfaced on Jalopnik and was later confirmed by sources at the companies involved in the production of the new Knight Rider TV series. They did, however, say the red lights in the hood were photoshopped as they were not working on the day that the photos were taken. Unfortunately, David Hasselhoff could not be reached for comment….

Shelby American Automobile Club has been around for 33 years, which has the important task of verifying the authenticity of every car that claims to be a Shelby Mustang. All that will come to an end January 31, 2008 if Carroll Shelby has his way. Shelby Automotive has sent, what is basically a cease and desist (here), to SAAC requesting that they stop using Shelby’s trademark, return all documents that prove the authenticity of Shelby Mustangs, return all unsold inventory and provide Shelby Automotive with financial records dating back to 1996. All this is coming not a month after Shelby teamed up with Blue Oval News to form the first “official” Shelby Mustang car club, called Team Shelby. Shelby also registered a trademark for “SAAC” on November 16, two days after the cease and desist letter was sent.

The Shelby GT500 will be sticking around for quite sometime according to Amy Boylan, President of Shelby Automotive Inc. She stated the GT500 will run “well into the next body style”. The Ford Mustang is expected to receive a modest face lift and power increase in 2010. Dealer markups should slowly start to decline now that dealerships can not market the GT500’s as limited edition, limited run Mustangs. Those wanting the 2008 Shelby GT500 should find the price tag much more reasonable as well.

The car that was too fast for American speed limits is now the car of choice for the last man alive. Apple has released a teaser trailer for I Am Legend which features Will Smith briefly sporting a 2007 Shelby GT500. Who else wouldn’t want to take a GT500 out on the empty streets of New York City? Especially if you are the only one left alive. No pesky cops to interfere with your joy ride. The Shelby GT will return in 2008 with a few changes, most notably the addition of a convertible model. The 2008 Shelby GT will have a production run of 2,100 with the majority of those 2,100 being convertibles. The 2008 Shelby GT will only be offered in Vista Blue with Metallic Silver stripes, a change from 2007 when buyers were given a choice of Performance White and Black Ebony. No reason behind the change to a one color production was given, our guess is it was due to Ford cutting options, but those interested in purchasing Black Ebony (my personal favorite) will be disappointed to no longer have that option. As with the 2007 model the GT will be produced with the 320HP 4.6L V8 and be offered in either Manual or Automatic transmissions. The price will remain the same as well.

Yea you will still have to cough up the $45,000 to get the GT500 (Good luck finding one for $45,000) and then purchase the package to compliment it. Amy Boylan, President of Shelby Automobiles Inc, pointed out that the quantity of the parts and the retooling required pushed the price to the $28,000 dollar mark. I’ll let you decide if the total best case scenario price of around $72,000 dollars is worth it. Complete parts list after the fold.

One thing that Ford seems to be doing really well is creating clever commercials to push their vehicles to consumers. One of my favorite commercials so far is the “Can’t find a speed limit I liked in America” commercial featuring the Shelby GT500 Mustang being imported into Germany for a little fun on the Autobahn. However, the latest one from the Ford Bold Moves advertising blitz proves to be equally entertaining as it shows a Shelby GT-H Mustang in a high speed chase with a cop car. Enjoy…

Why you box your GT500 Mustang up and ship it to Germany for a tour around the Autobahn. Ford’s latest Bold Moves puts the Shelby GT500 in the land of exotic cars and scenery. Ford Motor Company has released prices for the 2007 Shelby Mustang GT500 for the Coupe and the Convertible models. The Shelby Mustang GT500 comes in at a suggested retail value of $40,930 while the convertible has a suggested retail value of $45,755. Along with the car comes the hefty $1,300 dollar gas guzzler tax. $40,930 dollars for 500HP of American muscle is not that bad of a deal when you compare the price of it’s rival, the Z06 Corvette which as an MSRP of $64,890 for 505HP. The base Corvette sells for $43,690 and only packs a measily 400hp.
