tire question

Hey all, Love my new gears and my auburn unti. I've had them i for a month my car is a lot more fun now. THing is.....My stock tires hook up like crap. Even from a 3 rpm launch they just spin all day. I don't drive my car very hard so the tired haven't had a lot of abuse. Anyway, mechanics told me that I should start looking into getting new tires. I have a few questions, nautrally.

First: a 2002 V6...what are the stock tire sizes/specs for them>

second: I want a tire with good tread life that will also hook up well, any suggestions? I have heard a lot of good things about Kumho ECSTA ASX tires. PLus they are only 83 bucks a tire.

third: I would buy the tires from tire rack..good prices. ANyway, what kind of money would I be looking at spending to get the new tires installed on my stock rims??

fourth: For drag racing only: I've heard slicks with the stock 7.5 rear will kill the a** end of your car. Would drag radials be safe with the 7.5 rear end?...well...with an auburn posi unit...lol.

Re: tire question

1. 225/55/16
2. you get what you pay for (not trying to be rude or anything)
3. i work at walmart tire shop, we charge 3.50 per mount and 7.50 for a free lifetime balance per tire.
4.tough call. ive seen them hold, and ive seen them let go.

Re: tire question

first off, I would recommend you get some rims before you spend money on tires. I have the Kumho ASX tires and I have to say they are amazing. I would give them a 9 out of a 10. Also, my tires perform so well because I have a wide tire. 275/40ZR17. That's about 11". Your stock ones 225 is only about 9" wide, so you're lacking lots of rubber. I got my tires from tire rack for 122 a tire, and I got them mounted and balanced for $15 each. As for the rear. That's really going to depend on how well you've taken care of it. Have you done annual fluid changes? Have you beaten on it everyday? People forget 7.5s used to come in mustangs back in the day. Ford did realize the potential for them to break so upgraded to the 8.8 for the GT models.

Re: tire question

OK...if I did upgrade to better rims (Really want Bullits) how much would my speedo be off with the bigger tire?

Re: tire question

Well why would you get bigger tires??? You want wider, I think that's what you mean. if it's wider, it won't be off at all.

Re: tire question

Even if it does change, it will be so little you'll never notice.
