So I'm kinda liking these.

Well, I was looking at my tires the other day and noticed the tread was about half it was when I bought it. Looks like I've forgotten that I've driven twenty thousand miles since I've bought it. So I'm figuring I have another ten to twenty thousand miles left on them. So I'm about to be in the market for some new rims too.

So I remember seeing these online and looked them up again. Apparently the price has dropped way down. A listing of $734.00 for a set of 17x9/17x10.5 with Hankook H405, locking lug nuts, stems, and Cobra center caps.

O.E. Wheels list the specs of the tire to be:
Rear tire 275/40/17
Front tire 245/45/17
Treadwear 340
Traction A
Temperature A
Speed 130mph
The only thing a know about tires is how they read. But, I'm guessing these aren't the tires I'm looking for huh?

Re: So I'm kinda liking these.

I am telling you that you need to look into the General Exclaim (UHP) Ultra High Performance tire. I bought a set of 4 from Tire Rack for 354.00 shipped. They are the highest rated tire tire rack sells for traction, wear and just about every catagory. Look at the tire rack survey

General Exclaim UHP

Customer Survey Results By Category

The hankook 405 has no mileage warranty and are H rated and rated 360 A for tread wear and traction. The General have a mileage warranty and a 380 AA for traction and wear. All I can say these tires are also the most quiet tires I have ever owned including the Michelins I have had.

Corey!

Why do you have to find a good tire that does not come in a 15" size.

I'm gonna keep doing some research. Thanks for pushing me in the right direction.

Also, do anyone know how good the quality is on O.E. Wheels, the eBay store?

Re: So I'm kinda liking these.

As with anything else Ebay is hit and miss. 90% of the stuff I have bought as been as advertised and of good quality but I choose carefully by their ratings and will very rarely buy from noobie's on Ebay. You just never know

Why'd you have to have a tire that doesn't come in 275's.

Are you talking to me??? If so the Generals come in 275. I priced them. 245's are $76 and the 275 is around $98 Tire Rack just does not have them in stock but can order them

Either do I but I do see 275 40 18's and 275 30 19's

These are new tires and I bet as popular there will eventually be every size possible.

Re: So I'm kinda liking these.

they look good, but having the wrong size tire up front ruins it for me. I also had those style (chrome on mine) on my 97 and loved it, right after I got them EVERYONE had them but... that doesnt change the looks of them.

Re: So I'm kinda liking these.

Well they also sell them for a little over $500 shipped for just the 17x9 rim. I think I might just get them and then buy the tire later. Seems like a better deal.

Now what is the exact tire size I should be looking for?

Re: So I'm kinda liking these.

275/40/17 inch tire for a 17x9 rim NO OTHER SIZE. I would go with yokahoma avs es100 tires 129 each~ good tire, good life, looks really nice. Kumos are PILES OF CRAP fyi.

who makes those rims, AFS?

Re: So I'm kinda liking these.

eagle has issues with balancing, AFS seem to be pretty good. I have heard issues of them pealing (the chrome) but I have not see any of this~ seems to only be a few. I would MAKE SURE i have a warranty for XX amount of time to cover such a thing.

Re: So I'm kinda liking these.

Being that I'm on a budget, are the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 good for the price? Tire Rack has them for $106 a tire.

Re: So I'm kinda liking these.

trust me... pay the bit extra and get a much better tire, I had 712s and OMG they sucked in both tread life, looks, driving, traction, etc.

How much are the yokahoma avs es100s going for? I got mine for 129 each, thas only 23 more a tire, sure it adds up but... in the end you get a much better all around tire and they look great.

Guys you are not paying attention. I paid $76 a tire for probably the best tire on the market today for performance tires. They are at the top of the traction, wear and wet traction ratings. Compare Kumho's to the Generals. hell compare generals to any other tire and then see if they can be had for $76 at tire rack I think not

No I don't... they're on the car now. The drag radials are gone to that place in the sky where drag radials go when they die.

I may eventually sell the wheels and tires, but not quite yet. I may be selling the entire car instead. Don't really know what I'm gonna do yet.

It'd be nice if they offered them in some bigger sizes... 245 is as wide as they have for 17s.

EDIT: Here is an interesting professionally written comparison I found on there as well. Looks like the Kumho's are the best all-round where performance is concerned, while the Yoko's are better on dry pavement but no where near as good in the rain.

I see... so they're being sneaky about it...

I may look into a set when I get some wheels. They sound like a decent tire. The only thing I could find bad about them reading the reviews were some complaints about the sidewalls being too soft for cornering.

I have not seen this. I took my stang through my proving grounds and they performed perfectly. They never broke lose where as my Dunlops could not handle it and they had very rigid side walls. These tires shreaded the road and it has some hair raising twisty's

The things I like about the General UHP

The quietest tire I have owned. They dont make any noise at any speed.
Unbelieveable wet traction I hit 2 very large areas of standing water one at 45mph and the other at 65mph and I had no sense of hydroplaning or squirly steering.
Cost Cost Cost!!!
Good looking and very agressive V tread pattern for good water channeling
Steering response is as good as my Michelin Pilot AS's that cost over 3 times as much.

hey corey, what about on Dry? the tires i have now (see photo) suck in the rain, and uhh ill walk in the snow because they have no life left in them. I was going to get some Firestone firehawk wide oval (like Zim has now) for my stang.

Well hell there is no rain grove for the water to excape so you hydroplane. The Generals are among the highest rated tire wet or dry. Look at the chart a few posts up. Here is a pick of the tire again

My toyos came with a center water groove...the center is now bald on all four with only 20k on them. Kinda sad...

Re: So I'm kinda liking these.

Charles... while those generals are probably just as good, dont rule out the wide ovals. I get almost completely on the throttle in the rain with mine and still not spin. The traction of those firestones is unlike anything Ive ever had before. Tires Ive driven on:

Bridgestone potenza re730
Falken 451's (also really nice)
Dayton Daytona HR's
Goodyear f1 supercars (suck ***)
Firestone firehawk wide oval (awesome)
