Wheel refinishing

Was wondering if anyone has refinished the aluminium on their rims. I just got a set on 20's with some nitto's 255/35/20 tires on them, basically I bought the tires and got the rims free. The black still looks good but the aluminium edges are cracking on the clear coat. I would like to clean them up and make them look good again and thought I might be able to do it myself. Any thoughts on this or should I have a pro do it. P.S How do look on the car.Click image for larger version

Re: Wheel refinishing

you could sand the clear off and polish the lip and reclear it. not very hard just takes a long time.

Re: Wheel refinishing

I found a couple of websites with different ideas, without a doubt it will take some time. That lip will be a pain.

Re: Wheel refinishing

they can sandblast the rims to remove the clear coat then redo them if you wanted~ but you might be better off just doing a cheap fix until the tires need to be replaced and sell them off as its expensive.

Re: Wheel refinishing

Ok after a week and a half of working on the wheels and they didn't come out so good, I decided to have them sand blasted and powder coated. Here's the results.

Re: Wheel refinishing

Thanks, wasn't sure how I was really going to like the all black but when I went to pick them up they looked so good hanging there I couldn't wait to get them on my car to see how they looked. I think they turned out pretty damn good, now I need to order the black lugs.

from American Muscle and after a year they all developed
corrosion and the chrome pitted and peeled so now it's my turn.Help! Mahalo from Hawaii
