tires :)

ok I dont drive the stang more then maybe 3 times a month. i need some new tires on the front. (I run 245/45/17 on stock 99+ Gt style rims) The rears i have Firestone.

I dont want to spend Tons of money on new tires for the fact I dont drive it. When I do drive it, its not rain or snow so they wont be all season tires. Should I stick with name brand (goodyear, firestone...) or some out of USA brand?

Re: tires :)

The majority of brands are now out of the USA due to polution and the EPA think Japan.

Re: tires :)

but in reality you dont need a super expensive tire, you wont have traction issues with a lesser priced performance tire that will last you longer and look just as good~

i think the fact the regal is FWD is just why. any tire is gonna suck when you try to pull a car down the track while all the weight squats rearward. plus youre comparing a normal bfg tire on fwd to drag radials on rwd.

but for a v6 like fishers its doubtful he needs such an exotic tire to promote traction, so a more decent tire (not no sears specials) with longer treadlife is what i would go for as well.

yeah the rear firestones (in photo) will stay. The fronts, i plan on takin the mustang to the track once -2 times this year (not drag but : putnam park home page ) I just want to see if some tires like spec said would work just fine.

Go with the Yokos. They are the best tire for the price in my opinion.

Re: tires :)

BFGs = Overpriced.

Nittos = Overpriced and overrated.

And I can say that because I've had/have both street tires and drag radials from each of them.

Re: tires :)

My BFG's were nicely priced. Actually cheaper than alot of the tires in my size. Definitely a good tire for the price.

Re: tires :)

I'm not trying to say which tire I think is the best, I'm just saying what I would buy. I wouldn't buy Yokohoma's unless I owned a Evo or something because they don't look right sitting on a Mustang IMO. I had BFG G-Force KD tires on my Roush and I thought they were very good, but they where pretty expensive. Toyo's are also good tires but I wouldn't put them on my Mustang either, the name sounds to ricey or something.

Re: tires :)

I ran toyo tpt's on mine, and those things sucked. I could spin them from day 1 with a V6.

Re: tires :)

All these prices are for 275/40/17s from Discount Tire, Custom Wheels, Truck & Car Rims | Discount Tire Co.

Yokohama AVS ES100 = $125
BFG KDW = $171
Nitto NT 555 Extreme = $149

So the BFGs are $184 more for a set of four while the Nittos are $96 more.

And the Yokos are a great looking tire in my opinion, regardless of what kind of car you have... http://www.discounttiredirect.com/pr.../yokhzm.xl.jpg

Re: tires :)

Who says you need the KDW's? I have the G-force sports and they're a damn good tire with good tread life added in there.

Hook up with the street on the g-Force™ tire virtually every sport compact customer can afford.
That right there kinda threw me off of them. I've never actually had them though, so they may be a decent tire. Still, they're $12 more for four.

Re: tires :)

I didn't think much about them till my roommate put them on his camaro. I figured if they'll hook his car I should have no problem with mine.

yeah its mainly cause the sizes are geared for more use on narrower rims.

i love my KDW2's, talk about a entirely different driving experience.

btw the KDW2's are rated #3 in their category, and are among the most widely sought-after tire in most online communities ive visited (be it srt4, dsm/evo, wrx/sti, mustang, camaro).

Here is what i have now.

THE REAR TIRES WILL STAY! (They are brandnew, and I payed $50 for them. ) I really dont mind looks, I would rather go for grip (turnin grip not drag)

Was not referring to just forward traction, the tires had vibration and temporary flat spotting issues, they were loud, to boot.

If the car sat for more than 2 hours... and I'd start to drive down the road, the car would vibrate your teeth out.. for a mile or two, then they would smooth out SOMEWHAT... they'd also go down the road with a 'whump whump whump' noise... constantly, worse on the highway

Re: tires :)

dam that sucks. mine do have an increased amount of road noise, thus the need for a x-pipe and a louder exhaust! cant hear the tires over the exhaust now, though i cant hear the stereo either, so gotta upgrade that too now.
