New Tire size help.

I have a staggered set of rims, 17x8 on the front 18x9.5 on the rear. When I got them the rear had 275/35 on them, so I just tried to find a tire the same height basically for the front, I went with 225/45. Bad choice but no refunds, its not wide enough on the front, also the profile for the rear looks smaller than it should be, I have my car lowered 2' all the way around so Im not searching for a 4x4 tire lol, But I need ideas for my rims, If anyone has any ideas or pictures with the same rim size it would be appreciated. Also, Ive heard to go with 245/45 on the front...if so what for the rear?

Re: New Tire size help.

245/45/17s for front (OEM size for 99-04 GTs)

I would find a 255/45/17 a slight bigger to protect the rim lip.

For the 18x9.5 you can go with a 275/35/18, a 285/35/18, or a 295/35/18

I have 295/35/18s on my 18x10 you can click my sig for pics.

for a 9.5 do NOT GO ANY MORE NARROW THAN A 275, I would recommend at least a 285.

Re: New Tire size help.

Spec....you have a 35 tire? What kind of drop are you running?

Nevermind. .....just checked your garage, looks good.I think I'm gonna stick with a 18 this time.

To the OP,sorry to get off topic.I think the 275 or 285/35 would look great.

Re: New Tire size help.

Do you think it would be a bad choice for me to go 295/35 for my 9.5?

Re: New Tire size help.

I think it will be fine with a 295, keep in mind each tire runs different and one manuf's idea of 295mm is not the same as the next lol

my 295s are on 18x10 rims so you can see .5 inches (.25 per side) wont change it much in looks.

Of course the manufacture will make it difficult lol. So are you saying for the front since they are 17's 245/45 regardless?

Re: New Tire size help.

17x8 the right size for 94-04 mustangs are 245/45/17 from ford. I would recommend a 255/45/17 for a SLIGHT better rim lip protection (10mm is not much 25.4 mm = 1 inch and that 10mm is split side to side to 5mm a side extra)

make SURE they are not 17x9 rims if they are 17x9 you need a 275/40/17

take the width and then say WIDTH * SIDEWALL_NUMBER / 100 = Height of sidewall in milimeters.

275 * .40 = 110mm

245 * .45 = 110.25mm

255 * .45 = 114.75mm

all are close, for 17in rim you want 110mm sidewall height~ there about.

for 18in rims its different as the rim is 1 inch bigger (half top/half bottom)

265 * .35 = 92.75mm

275 *. 35 = 96.25mm

295 * .35 = 103.25mm

I see that 295/35/18 has a higher sidewall... but a 295/30/18 is not tall enough (88.5mm) but would technically be close~ not sure if anyone makes that lol.

Re: New Tire size help.

Overdue i know, lol tires are needed SOON. ive been on 1010tires.com experimenting with tires and I think if i would happen to get 245/45/17 for the front 285/40/18 would fit great. BUT Id still like opinions

I have 245/45/17 on the front and 275/40/17 on the back and they hook well and look good

Re: New Tire size help.

NEVER EVER EVER get anything less than a 265 for a 9 inch wide rim EVER, if you have any questions about going smaller re read this again lol.

lol Im not my fronts are 17x8 and my rear are 18x9.5. what im looking for is for my side walls to be as equal as possible and its hard to figure it out lol. I was gonna go 295/35/18 but the sidewall was actually smaller than the front 245/45/17. and with 285/35 on the back it would be a little bigger but that should give me a stance right?

Re: New Tire size help.

just take the first number (295) and take the second number as a percent (.35 in this case)

multipley 295 * .35 thats 103.25, thats how tall the sidewall is in MM, you can then see how close they will be

every 25.4mm is an inch for example.
