Bronze Wheels On Black New Edge (SMALL HOW TO)

Ok guys and gals... I know i recently asked for a photoshop but I see myself as an above average rattle canner so I just went and picked up some paint from sherwin williams, chose the color that I wanted and then had them put that SOB in an aerosol can.

I started with one of my black wheels and sanded her back down nice n clean.

Then I wiped her down and put the deck o cards around the lip and the tire

Added the first coat then let 15 mins to dry... first coat is the MOST IMPORTANT!!!!

added a second coat

threw her on the car

i fell in love. I am finishing the final 3 wheels and I will have pictures up

PS again... the weld pro stars with tires... 200 plus shipping to the first comer... 15x10 no center caps

and I am also bronzing out the emblems as well and stripping the GT decal on the sides.

pics to come soon

i told my dad about this (i have to check with him before i do anything to my car) and he said that you have to have a low pressure paint sprayer or something...which i dont have. does it really work with just a can of spray paint? i dont wanna screw up my new rims...

^^^ Time is everything and patience is key... I have done about 10 sets of wheels now... and I am lucky if I can still get a whole set from off the car to prepped in about 8 hours... I would do a wheel a day If i were you... you may look like a ****** for 4 days having off colored wheels... but in the end you will feel alot better...

Re: Bronze Wheels On Black New Edge (SMALL HOW TO)

ok...a few questions, cuz i really wanna do this myself, but my dad wants me to have someone paint the wheels for me...which i dont wanna pay for.
1. will that kind of paint last very long?
2. how much do i sand off before i paint them...and is that the only thing you do to prep them?
3. how many coats of paint should i put on?
...sorry for all the questions, but if i do this i want to do it well, and i dont know anything about painting...

Re: Bronze Wheels On Black New Edge (SMALL HOW TO)

Ok... here are the answers to your questions

If done right.. the paint should last a long time... beware as rock chips still happen... this is why I go to sherwing so I can also get a tube of touchup paint.

I sanded mine down enough for the paint to get a good grip. You have to realize different finished require different sanding routes. If your trying to do a high gloss finish.. I would warn you to go the other way as you will spend a couple weeks to get your wheels to turn out right. I went with metallic because it can hide small nicks and scratches like its job.

I wanted a dark bronze so I used a black basecoat.... 1 coat.... then 2 coats of bronze... first coat was more of a dusting, the second was a thicker coat. Then if you wanted a high gloss finish I would add 4 coats of clear, and sand lightly with 800 grit, then 1000 grit, then 2000 grit... then use rubbing compound to get out the scuffs, and then polishing compound to finish it off and boom goes the dynamite. You would have a glossy *** surface.

IDK how old you are... but I am only 24 and I remember lookin at my dad one day and being honest, I said i wanted to do this myself If i make mistakes please let me learn from them... I know im your son but if you dont trust me to do it alone, I would love some help... bam... anything from there on out was cake.

Re: Bronze Wheels On Black New Edge (SMALL HOW TO)

i'm buying used rims for $150...i was actually considering one of those rims, but $150 is a really good deal, and i kinda just want to paint the rims. i enjoy doing things on my own...this is a very rough idea of what i want them to look like...sorry about the quality, i just did it on paint quickly. idk...maybe its not even possible to do them like this.

trueforgedwheels.com is who I have my wheels with and they can do about anything in 2pc or 3pc if you ever wanted to go that route.

also let us know how that paint holds up.

Re: Bronze Wheels On Black New Edge (SMALL HOW TO)

I expect this paint to last me atleast a couple of years. I have only had to do touchups on long drives when a rare rock chip happens.. but for less than 20 bucks I can change my wheel color and upkeep them for a couple years... i'll take it. I am on the last wheel now and then ima head to wash the beast, then take some quick photos hopefully before dark.

here is the front pony too

I would deff. practice on an old set if you can its not that hard but it takes a while to get used tp all the different angles & not make runs & drips good luck I bet you'll do great

Helped a friend do his factory wheels black with red lip.

I think he worked pretty much an entire weeks straight on them and is still fixing a few issues here and there.

Biggest thing, as stated above, is to take your time with the prep work, that's where the finish will show.
