New Wheels and tires??

Hey guys I didn't find any threads already asking about the questions I have so If there was sorry about this. But I had some questions about some new wheels and Tires for my 2010 GT. I was looking into buying some new 20" chrome foose nitrous wheels as well as new tires to replace the stock gt premium 19" wheels that I have now. So my concern is the tires that I was looking at were the nitto NT555's which would come in 255/35 - 20s for the front and 285/30 - 20s for the back. Right now I have the Pirelli 245/45 - 19s all around and to my understanding these new Nittos would be a little smaller which would make my speedometer read incorrectly wouldn't it? If so then is there away to adjust the speedometer for the New wheels and tires to read correctly? And my last question was whether or not anybody has already purchased these wheels and how they like them?? Pictures are encouraged Thanks!

I have 255/35/20 up front an 295/30/20 in the rear. Yes your speedometer will be off. Either get your dealership to change your wheel size by computer during your next service or go buy a tuner and you can change it yourself.
These are Foose stealth legends, almost the same type of wheel.

Re: New Wheels and tires??

the key is to get the same overall height. You are going from 19" rim to a 20" rim so your tire sidewall needs to shrink 1/2 of an inch (top/bottom = 1 full inch).

The middle number on a tire is the percentage number. 255 * .30 = X if the sidewall was 30 and the width was 55 that's how you would figure out the actual tire side wall height.

That number (X) is in millimeters

so 24.5mm = 1 inch

you need a number (x) that is half of 24.5mm or 12.25mm less

you currently have 245/45/19s

245 * .45 = 110.25mm

110.25 - 12.25 = 98mm (sidewall height you want for 20's to maintain the speedometer where its at.

255/35/20 is 89.25mm tall
285/30/20 is 85.5mm tall

so you are 10mm short ~

your only choice is a
255/40/20 = 102mm (very close)
285/35/20 = 99.7 (also very close)

~ hope that helps

you can go with a 265 or so to also play with the outcome~ or a 295 vs 285 to find the sweet spot.

Okay thanks guys! The reason I was looking at those sizes was because they were the only ones that American muscle carries and I thought it would be nice to order everything together. They offer the free mounting balancing and shipping so I was going to see if I could just adjust the speedometer and go with the smaller tire. What are your reccomendations?

I like the look of 20" rims on mustangs because it fills the wheel wells up these are the wheels I have and they are nitto tires.

Alright thanks guys! Great pictures and info, really helpful! I think I'm going to go ahead and get them and I'll just invest in tuner so I can reset the speedo for whatever tires I want as well as a little extra performance which sounds good also haha

I had nitto 555 on my 05, I agree in the rain they suck. I also thought they had lots of road noise. I did have a low profile tire so I do understand that was some of the issue. I currently run Toyo proxes and I love them. Minimal road noise and good handling for about the same price. If you have the money and minimal rain the nitto invo are really good. Excellent for launch and soft so noise is no issue, only down fall is they are a little soft so they go faster than a harder compound tire.

Got my whole setup from them. Guy in sales named Jon sold me the wheels and tires already mounted and balanced. Was shipped well and installed the day they arrived.

Oh sweet. I saw they have the whole set up for a nice deal so I was looking into them. Do you know if they add the tire pressure monitoring systems to the wheels?
