2006 GT Stock Bullit 17x8 -> 2002 Mustang v6

Hey guys, I'm a new member.

I was given a set of wheels for my old lady's car as a wedding gift. The wheels are the stock Mustang GT wheels in the Bullit style off a 2006 model. I know they are 17", and I believe they are 17"x8".

I might be in the same pickle as this member:
Will 2006 GT rims fit on a 2004?

If I am to order wheels spacers, what kind of spacing will I need?

Also, the stock tire on the 2002 is 25.7" tall (225/55/16), whereas the tire used on these newer wheels is 27.2" tall (235/55/17). Will the standard 235/55/17 tire work okay with the old lady's mustang, or should I pull it back a little to 235/50/17?

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone.

Ryan

Idk about spacers, but hopefully someone will chime in. Do you have a tuner? Because the speedo will be thrown off. If you can replace the tires with the correct sized tires then you should be good other than the backspacing.

Thank you for the reply. I am not concerned with a 1-4% speedometer difference. I can calculate that upon purchase of tires. Most importantly i need the spacing difference and to know how tall of a tire will fit with no mods. Thanks.

Re: 2006 GT Stock Bullit 17x8 -> 2002 Mustang v6

I'm doing more of my own research here, and I've come up with this.

The Stock Mustang GT wheels have the following specs:
17x8
Offset: 45mm
Backspacing: 6.32"

Does anyone know the numbers on a stock 2002 v6 mustang wheel? By doing a little subtraction, I should be able to know how thick of a spacer I should buy.

I'm not a wheel expert here. I was trying to read/comprehend what offset and backspacing mean. In this case, it seems like a spacer affects the backspacing, right?

I think I remember guys running about 1" spacers to adapt the new wheels to the earlier Mustangs...

Re: 2006 GT Stock Bullit 17x8 -> 2002 Mustang v6

I found a 2003 SVT Cobra wheel that has a stock measurement of 19mm offset. 45-19 = 26. 25mm would be about right, and 1 inch is ~25mm.

1 inch spacer, it is!

For anyone who is curious, I've decided to go with a 245/45/17 size tire. It provides an almost identical circumference and is less than 1/2 inch wider than what the wheel was originally designed for.

they will fit, but you need a spacer as said, not a big deal wont look odd or anything just something you need.
