Wheel and tire questions- need help

I'm looking at getting a new wheel/tire set up on my 2005 GT. Right now I have 17" alloy bullitt wheels on it (235/55ZR17 tires)
My questions:
1. I want to do a staggered set up- it's hard to find that in 17"- if I go to 18" will I need to change my tune?
2. Is there anything else I need to know about changing from 17 to 18 inch wheels.
Am I overthinking this? Can i just buy the wheels, pop them on and go, or are there things I need to be considering when going up a wheel size?

Why is it so darn hard to find black bullit staggered wheels in 17?

THANKS!

Re: Wheel and tire questions- need help

your stock size on the 17s are 235 55 17

you can go with any size rim you want as long as your overall height of the tire remains the same. Currently you are at

17 inches (rims) + 10.2 inches (sidewall height of tires) = total height of 27.2 inches (sidewall height is 129.25mm) take a tape measure and go measure ground to top of your tire see if the numbers are accurate if not let me know.

what ever 18 inch wheel you get make sure the overall height will be the same

that means:

18 inches (rims) + 9.2 inches (sidewall height of tires) = total height of 27.2 inches~ or close

255 50 18 (127.5mm sidewall height) for a 8 inch rim will work good

275 45 18 (123.75mm sidewall height) for a 9 inch rim will work good

295 45 18 (132.75mm sidewall height) for a 10 inch rim will work good

non are perfect but 25.4mm = 1 inch for reference, the sidewall height is PER TOP and BOTTOM so double the difference over stock to see the overall diameter change.

IF you have a tuner I would recommend dropping down a bit more on the sidewall to around 95mm sidewall height especially if the car is lowered as it will look MUCH cleaner, but if you ever sell the car you will have to sell it with the tune on it, put it back to stock and have the speedo run fast, or put OEM spec tires on it~

if you have any questions please let me know
