Is this true?

I have been told somethings about wheels and tires lately and I not knowing any better, figured I would ask you guys. Is it true that going from 20s to 18s would greatly improve handling and gas mileage? They also said that running a staggered setup would make handling worse but would improve launches off the line. Is all this true?
I have 20s now and need new tires, but I am trying to improve my ride quality and handling and so they are trying to talk me into selling my 20s and going with 18s. What do y'all think?

Awesome, how much do you think a set of 20" staggered chrome creggars could be sold for? You know, trying to offset the cost of new rims and tires.

It's all relative to your total setup!.. Your engine (size and mods done to it), tranny (auto or stick, 4spd, 5spd, or 6spd), and rear gears!.. My '04 GT is rated at 24mpg highway when it was new, and that is with the factory 17s on!.. Yet the new 5.0 with 20s is rated at about 24mpg also!.. So like I said it's all relative!...

They came with the car.
I think they look pretty good, but handling, ride quality, and gas mileage are more important.

Ok so no on those rims for a mustang. I used to be heavy into the import scene and so I have to constantly fight my tuner side when looking for stuff for my new mustang.

I agree with that completely.
But I also want the car to look good and not rediculous.

Then stay far away from those wheels......

If you like the tuner stuff, then some fr500's or gt4's may be more to your liking, while keeping the car from looking like a mean joke.

blunt, but appreciated. I do kind of like the fr500s. Thanks for the ideas.

No matter what you do you are going to have someone telling you to do something else. I say take what you want from what everyone is saying and make your own decision, dont let one persons opinion dictate what you decide to do. There is always going to be pro a cons to what ever you do to your car. I myself would, lastly, be worried about the little difference in mpg you will see! Good luck in your decision.
