Rims

If I went from factory 17s to aftermarket 18s wouldn't speedometer be off?

Only slightly... But yes. If you have a tuner you can fix it through that.

The tire outside diameter determines your speedo accuracy. The wheel size is irrelevant if you get new tires with the same OD. There are tire size calculators on most tire websites where you can figure those numbers out to assure you get the same OD.

So what's the biggest width I could go without a change

Again, it's not width or wheel size, it's outside diameter (height). Google "tire size calculator". Enter your current size and then the width and wheel size you want and it will tell you what tire to buy and keep the same OD.
