$738.47 per Brembo rim...

I took mine into the dealership today for the 15000mi checkup (cost me 27 dollars for tire rotation, fluid, alignment & balance check, electronics). I got to talking to the service manager about the brembo rims. Mine are a little over a year old and I'm seeing some paint chipping and cracking already (let's make this perfectly clear, I haven't rimmed a tire since Mom's van 15 years ago). I asked him if this was a common complaint, what would it cost to get that fixed...yeah, warranty does not apply to rims/tires, and each brembo rim is a whopping $738.47.

So, while pouting on the way home I stopped by Lowes and spent $5.56each for 3 cans of black plasti-dip and made a project out of it.

6 light coats, 20mins between each coat with a 3 hr set time after the last coat. I'm happy with it, what do yall think?

Yes, I know she needs lowered. I'm working on convincing the wife that we need to do it still.

It's tinted as far as the law allows in Illinois. That's 30%...

Law? Okay.

Blacking them out is a huge improvement. Then grow a pair and slap some 10% tint on that sucker.

Should only be for the front windows. By putting 5% on the rear quarter panel and back window. It makes the front look darker. Just a thought. I have 25% in the front and 5% everywhere else. Helps if you ask me.

Well apparently the rim warranty was an additional thing besides the standard warranty we got. I already spoke to the service manager about it...so, whatever. When the time comes, I'll either just keep plastidippin em or just pay a shop to powercoat or something. I wasn't a fan of the generic looking silver anyway.

up to 35% for front and rear windows
30-35% in the rear and up to 50% front
If rear windows are tinted below 30%, front windows cannot have tint.
Vehicles equipped with factory rear tint are allowed to have
up to 50% tint for front windows.

That's the 2013 Illinois tint law. Mine is at 30% all around, nothing on the windshield.

I'd go darker (believe me, I love that blackout look) but I get too much attention from the authorities as it is. I live in Mt Prospect (yeah, THAT Mt Prospect from the Blues Brothers) and the cops are every-freaking-where, and there's a firestation where they hang out just a mile from my house.

If I'm gonna get a ticket, I'd rather it be a moving violation than a 'hey your tint is too dark' citation.

Call ford and push the issue. Find out. If they said here's 2,800$ cash, I'd sure do it lol. It would def be worth checking out. I bought my wife a 2011 escape, we had it to the shop 10 for a popping that wouldn't go away and they couldn't fix. Finally , they offered a deal on a same model edge and gave it to us for the same price. 9,000$ more expensive vehicle. Some times pushing the issue pays off.

Or you could always just go to another dealership complain about the same thing and see what they say sometimes it just takes talking to the right person :p

i had a rim replaced right out of the gate for this. However, don't feel too bad, I see '13 GT500s with similar paint adhesion issues on the factory wheels. The quality of work here is just downright awful.

Like you, when it get too bad, I'm just going to PC them.
