Tire size

I have a 17 in wheel what it the widest tire that I can put on there?

Width? Also what year is your Mustang? And will these be going in the front or rear? Got to know this stuff first.

How do I know what width my rim is without looking at it? I'm guessing it's 17x9 since my tire size is also 245/45/17

If your tire is a 245 it is most likely an 8" wide

I was told you could possibly get a 351 on a 17in rim I'm not all that into the wheels and tires so I don't know about this stuff what does the width have to be for a 315??

Most aftermarket 9" wheels have a decent backspacing to them. You can try measuring from lip to lip and subtracting an inch, that should tell you the true length, or you can see if the tires are bulging or stretching. They'll tend to look stretched on a 9" wheel
