285 35 or 285 40

Lookin to get some nt 555 and I'm wondering if I should get the 35's or 40's? I've got 285 30 18 right now and they make the car look like it's squatting. Thanks

I personally like 285/40-18, the 35 sidewall looks just too low profile to me on an 18, the 40 is perfect.

You have that reversed. 40 out back and 45 in front. Going with a thinner tire up front on a staggered setup means you have to go up in profile for the front to keep them the same or close to the same. I'm running a 40 in the back and a 45 up front and the 45 up front is still .3" shorter than the 40.

285/40 is 27" tall. You will be almost an inch shorter up front but it probably won't hurt anything. BFG is having a sale right now on 18s btw.

A 275/40/18 BFG Comp 2 is going to be under $200 per tire and will fit perfect on a 10" wide, they run big. You'll be at 26.6" tall. Then you can go with a 265/40/18 for 26.3" tall or a 245/45/18 for 26.6" tall up front. Or a 235/45/18 for 26.3" tall also like I did but they are a little thin which I don't care about but a lot of ppl would.

That is 26.6" tall out back and 26.3" tall up front. 275/40/18 in back and 235/45/18 in front.

Damn I forgot bout the comp 2's. The old man has a set on his 88 LX and they seem pretty solid performers. I ended up gettin the 285 40 nittos. I have some 255 40 kdw's up front and had 285 30 falkens out back and it looks like she's squatting-not cool. Ill probly go after some 245 nittos next season for the front. Thanks guys

Buyer beware with Nittos, they run REALLY small. Like... 3-4 sizes too small. My old Nitto 315s are just a hair wider than my new BFG 275s, you may not like how the Nittos fit on a 10" wide rim. Also these BFGs hook up better than my 555Rs did unless I REALLY heated them up and those are supposed to be drag radials.

I would not go any less than a 255 wide Nitto on a 9" rim and that will be either flush or a little stretched. I'd go no less than a 315 Nitto on a 10" rim...

Why does everyone get the 555s? You get less tire for your money and there are others out there that hook up better for less. The BFGs are one brand, Mickey Thompson Street Comps are another. 555s run just like 555Rs as far as fit.

285 35 or 285 40

I just got tired of looking and they had good reviews. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I have a weak budget. Ill be the judge of how they are. Not like I have some super powerful cobra or something, it's just a gt.

I recently ordered a set of FR500's black with the NITTO NT555's, the wheels in the front are 17"/ 9" with 275/40-17 and the rears are 17"/ 10.5 with 315/35-17. Gave my 02 GT a very aggressive stance.

I have not been impressed AT ALL with the Nittos. I could spin the goddam 555Rs though 2nd with a MODULAR and 3.73 gears unless I got them really hot or it was a really hot day. These BFGs just hook and they aren't even drag radials. Ride with a 40 sidewall Nitto up front was very rough too.
