235/50 tire on 255/45 wheel?

I know I can do it, but is the difference too much? I just got new tires on my stock v6 stang with the club of America package - 18 inch- but wanted to upgrade the rims diameter a little. I was just wondering if this difference would cause any major problems, or if it wouldn't make much of a difference. For example, I know there is only a 0.7% speedometer miscalculation. I'm just being cheap here Thanks

So you have an 18 inch wheel? And your wanting what? To "upgrade the rims diameter"? Meaning? Are you wanting a taller tire on your wheels? If so, the 235/50 will be slightly narrower and slightly shorter than the 255/45

Sorry, I currently have a 18x8 wheel and want to get a 18x9 wheel but use the same tire as I used on the 18x8, if that makes any sense.

No, 235 on both, it's just the new wheel is supposed to have a 255 tire on it. I was wondering if my current tire would fit.

Well, it probably would but it might be stretching the tire quite a bit. I'm not totally sure but. 235 is the tires width in millimeters, divide it by 25.4 to get it in inches. 235 divided by 25.4 is 9.25 inches.. so its barely wider than the rim, if possible I would try to save up for tires as well.

235 is too small for a 9" wide rim. Perfect for a 8" wide rim.
