17x8 stock rim

255/45/17 the biggest I can go? Looked around on google and people been saying that's the safe size without bulging. I also have cobra IRS if that makes a difference. Lowered about 1.5 inch. Right now sitting at 245/45/17 in the rear.

A lot depends on the tire manufacturer and how they size their tires but honestly from everything I've seen a 245 tire is the proper size for an 8 inch rim. A 255 MIGHT fit but honestly I personally wouldn't do it. Considering a 9 inch rim holds a 275 tire properly. If you want a wider tire I would do it right and look for a wider rim. Reminds me of my F body days where people use to try and squeeze a 305 tire on a 9 inch rim. With as much as a safety issue as tires are I wouldn't cheap out and try and squeeze a wider tire on a small rim but that's just me.

My 255 Hankook fit just fine on my old Bullitts with very little bulge. The IRS won't be an issue with a tire like that

255/45/17 came stock on 94/95 Cobras, they fit totally fine on 17x8s. I would not go bigger really because you will have to go down in sidewall height and there is also really no need.
2000 Mustang GT Steeda build #48. Bolt ons, suspension, Novi 2000.

Just because I give you advice, doesn't mean I know more than you. Its just means I've done more stupid ****.
