Best Street/Strip Tire Mach 1

Getting some new rubber over winter for the Mach. Still debating on a new set of 18's wheels or dropping down to 17's for tire cost, either way that's beside the point.

Looking for some feedback on rear tires. Been leaning towards Nittos, either NT555's or NT05's, 295 or 305 if 18's or 315 if 17's.

Want a decent street/strip tire, car will see the track next year as well as pavement (not a dd).

Mickey Thompson Street Comps. You can go 315 wide no problem with a 17" wheel and the cost is much lower. There is literally no advantage to 18s at all, only looks. Extra weight, extra cost, narrower rear tires.

I do love the way the 18s look tho...

Pretty much the same thoughts about 18's. Only reason I'm considering them now is because the car currently has 18" Saleens. It really is amazing how much more 18" 295+ tires are compared to 315 17s.

Will definitely look into the MT Street Comps, haven't heard a ton about them but I am sure they are a solid choice.

I only wish the 40mm sidewall wasn't so noticeable on 255 thru 275 17's (fronts). Maybe I'm slightly biased having had the 18's for a while now. I do plan on dropping the car another 1" in the spring so that will probably help.

Lol I like a little sidewall on my tires. Not a fan of rubber bands. I ran a 235/45/18 up front and a 275/40/18 out back on my old 98 with 18x8/18x10 up front. For a NA 2V that's as much tire as I needed. For this car I'm putting back together in my sig... going to need the 315 Mickeys...

I've heard these hook about like a 555. In other words they suck.

Personally I currently have 305/30-18 R888 on my car and they hook OK on the street. For the track I just put on a spare pair of wheels with ET streets.

Yeah, MT's come 17X10.5 315/35/17.
Would be the one to get my vote.

I've read glowing reviews on them and there are a few ppl on here who have ran them with great success.

I personally had the Nitto 555s as well as the 555Rs and was not exactly impressed. My BFGs hooked better TBTH. Hopefully the Mickeys are better still.

would you recommend same tires for 20s?

mostly a street car maybe goes to the track 3 times a year. Blower going on right now so i need some new tires for sure.

I have had good luck with the 555Rs. I pull 1.58-1.65 60's no problem with them. The regular 555s I ran on my old GTO sucked rather badly. But the 555Rs are great. I run them full time on my car with 593 rwhp.

Thanks for the input guys.

Well I just ordered 18x9 and 18x10.5" Rovos Durbans so sticking with 18's.

Probably gonna do 255 or 265's up front and 295 or 305's out back.
Keep in mind I'm making about half the power of most of you lol, ~300 rhwp, so the hooking issue ya'll experienced with the 555's may not be the case here.

Still gonna look into the MT and Nitto options. Thought about Invos but heard they don't hook worth a crap at the track or on the street. Maybe I should just get some dedicated slicks for the track. Gonna have an extra set of 18" Saleens lying around now anyways.

I came back a few months ago. I stay for a few years and leave for a few. Just depends on how bored I get.
