17" Tire options

So I've noticed that there are a lot less tire options out there for 17" wheels since I last bought tires in 2013. I currently have 17x9 AFS wheels Mach 1 reps all around with 275/40/17 BFG's.

I am wanting a slightly smaller tire up front. The BFG's run kinda big compared to others and they are now g-force comp 2's all season tires instead of summer tires.

I bought a set of matching 17x10.5's for the rear and plan to go with 315/35/17 size.

I really wanted to match my tire manufacturers front and back, but it doesn't look like I'm going to get that.

I've narrowed it down to 265/40/17's up front. That it just slightly shorter than the backs will be and shouldn't be noticeable. If I go 255/40/17, they'll be almost an inch shorter and that might show more wheel gap. Also it will be a shorter ride height and I'm already planning to drop another 1/2". 255/45/17's are slightly taller than the rears will be and that might not look right.

What do you guys think? What setup are you running on your 9" wheels? Will it look fine if the tires don't match manufacturers?

Why not just run Mickey Thompson Street Comps? Going with the same setup as you except not the Mach wheels (although I bet they would look good). 275/40/17 up front and 315/35/17 out back.

275's are so big up front though. I guess 265's really aren't that much smaller. When I originally got the 275's, I was thinking of doing some autocross. Not so much wanting to do that anymore. I do like the MT Street Comp's.

Looking at AM's website, it would be perfect if the MT Street Comp's came in 255/40 or 265/40 sizes. 255/45/17 would be noticeably taller I think.

So, I've also been thinking about 265/40/17 Potenza's Sports up front.

And 315/35/17 Proxes TQ in the back.

My rear is stock 28 spline. Will these Toyo Proxes twist my axles in short order?

Having had 275 wide BFG Comp 2s... They are more like a 295. Seriously. They fit perfect on a 10" wide rim with even a little to spare. A normal 275 fits fine on a 9" wide rim. You can look at the customer pics on AM to see what the pre packaged combos look like as far as fit.

Well, you talked me into it haha. Just bought a set of MT street comps. 275/40/17 and 315/35/17.

I saw that they still had some BFG gF comp2's in 255/40/17 out there, so I started plan B. I was looking at BFG T/A drag radials to match up with them, but it says they need an 11-12" wheel, so that pretty much killed plan B.

It's cool though because I've been wanting to try these out anyway, and like you said, the BFG's run big.

Good deal. Hell I am actually tempted to run some AFS rims myself. Just wish they'd have others in stock besides just the Machs although I bet those black window Mach rims would look badass on a silver car like mine. I'm just kind of of the opinion that Mach rims belong on Mach cars. Not like the Bullitts that you could get on everything.

Yes, I agree, they would look really good. I've got to believe AFS is working on restocking the other wheels they've sold in the past. Good wheel for the money.

Man, there's a few out there that say these tires suck. I have a hard time believing they suck. Maybe they were expecting DR performance out of summer street tires.

At your power level they will do wonders. I'd be willing to say that they will hook up well enough to where you might want to consider a 31 spline overhaul.

Especially if you plan on a few 5k dumps at the track

I think people are expecting them to be like NT05s or something. Yes they are street radials and people see "Mickey Thompson" and automatically expect them to be super sticky. At least that is what I'm thinking.

Ha that's funny because I've had people tell me my NT05's are gonna suck and not hook worth a crap. So if that's the case rcode doesn't have a chance in hell!

Awesome! 315's are the sh*t! After my 295's are toast I'm gonna step up to 305's or 315s on the Mach.

So, I haven't been able to really get a good feel for the traction of the MT street comp's yet. I need to get out when it's warmer and get the tires warmed up good and see how they compare to the BFG g-force comp 2's I had.

I only have the back on so far because, mainly because of the weather and being busy.

I didn't roll my fenders and doesn't seem like I'm going to need to. I have Eibach Sportlines with stock ISO's in case anybody was wondering about rubbing. Measured through the center of the wheel, it's about 26.8" to the bottom of the fender. The new tread added a little to my height compared to my previous tires. At some point in getting new adjustable LCA's and may be dropping a smidge in the future, but I'll address the fenders then.
