yet another tire size question

Sorry to post about this, but i have a question about tire size.

I'm thinkin about buying some 17x8s and 17x10.5s for my stang.

what size tire would be the cheapest for these?

would 245/45HR17s fit on both of these wheels? I think I saw that somewhere, but I want to clear it up before I start spendin the money...

:thanks: in advance

first is width i know. and i think the second is the height in percentage of the width. so if you had a 245/40 your wheel would be 245 mm wide and the height would be 40% of 245. i think this is right, someone correct me if i am wrong

:yup: your right...
I think you could also use a 295/35 and be fairly close to the right height.
And i will be getting some 10.5s with 315s sometime in the future.if and when i get a v8

converting from inches to millimeters is easy too, just take the width in inches and multiply by 25.4 This gives you the approximate tire width for a given rim.

alright thanks guys. I found some relatively cheap tires, but they're no name brand (Hankook?), so I think I'll skip them... Rather pay more and get something I know is good quality. Esp since tires are arguably the most important thing on a car

so, let me get this straight, you want to but huge wheels but don't want to spend money on good tires? great mod ethics you got there... 10.5" is stupidly huge for your 6 banger. if money is an issue, get 17x8's all around and get some decent tires for them. that way you can rotate them as well. it's a little encouraging at least to read your last post. tires ARE what makes a suspension and what makes a car a lot of the times.

brent, why do you say aspect ratio of 40... a 17x8 needs 245/45/17 tires.

Well, I have 17's, and my tire sizes are 245/45/ZR17. Hankook tires are actually pretty good. I'll stick w/ Toyo, but they are a good tire.

you should buy 17 by 9 all around and run 275/40/17 tires on every rim.... if you go any wider than a 9.5 a 275 becomes to narrow to protect the rim, a 315 fits really good on a 10 wide rim, a 305 will also work.... its gonna be alot cheaper and alot less issues if you go 17 bh 9 with a 275 all around, you can rotoate, they will look good, rims will be protected, its all good.

tire apparently cant read very well

i said 10.5 was waaay too wide. way before your post about my "stupidly huge" want.

and my post before this one, I said I was going to skip a brand I hadn't heard of. exactly for the reason you said I was stupid for not doing.

great reading ethics you got there...

I said that about not talking to me because at least 2x during this post I've said that 17x10.5s were way too wide for me. Please read ppl!

It doesn't matter anyways now. All four (hopefully, I read Zim's post, lol) 17x9s will be here by wed.
