life span of the s197 4.0...

Here's a question that I would really like the answer to... who has the most miles on their 4.0 and what problems occur at what mileage? I have a 08 4.0 still under warranty and have some issues with reverse (can't put it in reverse sometimes unless i tap the gas a little) and also things are coming loose in the doors, over bumps and speed bumps etc I hear squeaking in the driver's side door and if i hit the door it squeaks.

In theory the v6 should last a long time since it has a cast iron ford ranger engine, but I would really like to know what to expect in general.

Also, let me know if you drive like a grandma or pretend you are Nick Cage in gone in 60 seconds before you tell me that everything works fine at 100k miles

Re: life span of the s197 4.0...

I just hit 36K in mine. It's an 07 with minor mod's so far, all bolt on. I'm an even mix, I try to keep my foot off the accelerator but I also put my foot down more than I care to admit. I haven't had any issues so far except for a fan motor in the dash that was replaced about 10k miles back. She's treated me well so far. But I am putting in a set of 4.10 gear's and a ford racing t-lok next week, just bought them. I'll let you know if that throws anything off kilter.

Well I don't have a 4.0, however have had just a few issues with my 2002. Alternator at 60K, Coil at 74K, Window came out of allignment around 50K and again around 80K, but other than that the car has been fine. Currently 107K. Mine is an auto and its a little sluggish, but not terrible. I'm hoping I can get atleast 150K, which I think it will accomplish easily. Hope thats reassuring even though our mustangs are different years.

The 4.0 in the mustangs have been in the explorer since 98 and 2001 in the ranger. I have seen them get to 150-250k with no major problems.
