Will the PI be locked when im just cruising?

I already have a fordchip, and i think they lock the converter anyways with that, so i assume i dont need a reburn. But when im just crusing below 3k rpms (im getting a 3k stall) will the converter be slipping, or will the eec be smart enough to realize its just making excess heat and lock it up?

youre correct, they do lock it up when dynotuning, so you dont need a reburn.

if youre in OD, then it will lock up. the computer will be smart about it

call the converter people, a 3000 true stall speed will require the converter to be smaller on an aode. anything over 2600 stall will need the computer to be adjusted. If your car is a daily driver 2600 is the most you should go. any stall larger requires a smaller casing and changes the chacteristics too much from stock for the computer to adjust lock up. its then you will need to reburn. 3.8 ultimate launch rpm is 3100rpms. if you use your car everyday as a daily driver go 2600 on the stall. the converter is the same size case as stock but is so much more tight and efficant. gear size and cruising rpms determine what type to select. call edge racing converters. they got v6 guys pulling the fronts wheels off the ground! NO LIE

is it me or did that just come off as one big ad?

fordchip has the eec lock the convertor so you get the most transfer of power out of your engine. I dont think convertor speed has anything to do with it really, since the eec is telling it to lock as it is.

its not an add. if you research a converter it should be custom built to your specs such as mods, rear gear, racing shift points and so on. you can't buy a converter off the shelf and expect 100 performance. there is a balance to what you want out of your car. street mostly weekend ride or all out strip car. my converter was hand built to my specific mods. im just sharing what worked for me and why. edge has you fill out a very detailed sheet about your car, the tech calls you to discuss options then the same tec BUILDS the converter to your exact car. Not some suit sellin you somthing then driving home in his Lincoln Town Car. But many other converter guys do a good job too. Al MY stuff is custom built. not what falls into a range or catagory. a converter with more stall than 2600 is done in a smaller shell and the guts are different and requires lock up at a specific rpm. its obtained thru the computer to be adjusted to THAT application. i have a 13.8 sec v6 before the converter was installed. you do what you want but this is what I did. Either way a converter really makes a difference. espically with my supercharger off the line

not to put you down, i mean 13.8 is fast.

But a blower, gears, and a custom converter and your stuck in high 13s-low 14s?

A very close friend of mine has a blower, with 3.73's and stock auto running a 13.6, with the same convertor as GreenFlash and he will be seeing 12s.

Just some food for thought.

I got a friend with a civic , his best 1/4 was a 12.6 , all motor. intake, header, exhaust, vtec controller, its a LSvetc swapped into a hatchback civic. (i had to ask my friend for his info i have no clue whats special about a lsvtec.) hey when you run a mid 12sec 1/4 in a daily driven car it gets my respect.

your point? this isnt civic nation...

I was comparing one blown auto with another.

i have 3 mods on that slip. I don't have slicks to use either.
my gear is a 3:45 posi
the 13.8 is with out the converter... i have dual exhaust but
otherwise its a stock block with a 11lb charger.
I have 2 chips... the 13.8 is on my safe tune for everyday driving. this is actually my work car. im an electrican and drive on the highway alot. and can't afford to run 100 octane every day.
my second chip has major timing advance and when i was at the track it was too hot to take a chance on detionation. (July in Chicago) I heard a slight ping on 100 race fuel and didn't wan't to hurt the motor.I hope to be at BYRON RACEWAY Nov 1 to test the converter and "balls out" chip. I hope to see low 13s on street tires then 12s down the road. Thanks for the input. I really think people who run v6s and hit 12s and 11s are accomplishing more than someone building a v8. Your friends car sounds real fast. ill post my time slip after nov 1st.IF IT DOSEN'T RAIN.

a 3k converter actually wont slip up to 3k its a little lower than that expecialyl on the 3.8 so goign a little higher is probably a good idea.

This is a smart man. Yea actually, i have my 3k and it slips up to around 2500. And it hasnt affected my daily driving in the least, other than the fact that my 1st gear is wicked quick now. No probs. I love it. 8)

how do you like your 4;10 and stall combo? i would like to do a 4:10 and add a set of headers and call it quits for a while. what rpm are you at @ 60 -70mph with the 4:10?

I absolutely love the combo man...first gear is pretty sick dude. I can break the tires loose in first from a roll in on occasion. My rpms arent bad at all...about 2500 i think at 60 and around 2800 at 70. No biggie tho, i drive 99.9% city anyways.
