Offroad H-pipes

Does anybody know whether or not a Off road H-pipe is illegal in Virginia? I would like to get one to replace the one I have now. Also would it have any loss in power compared to the one with cats?

If all you have done is CAI and dual exhaust, you will actually lose low end torque by taking out your cats. It will give it a better tone, but a small loss in power. As far as being legal, google up virginia emissions laws and check it out.

It's nationally illegal to remove or mess with working cats, if I'm not mistaken. That's why it's "off-road": they're not supposed to be used on street-legal cars. (wink, nudge, say-no-more)

As far as Va, how strict are the emissions tests?

in TN all they do is the mirror test. they stick a mirror under your car to see if it has cats. and they check your gas cap and ecu

I had a buddy of mine tell me that to pass inspection in VA you have to have the same amount of cats on ur car that it comes stock with. I think i'll just stick with the h pipe with cats although I would like to get some headers
