Question Rear Differential, 1998 Mustang

Hey y'all,
I'm replacing the rear end in my 1998 V6 Mustang. I need to know what size is from the factory and what year models I can get a replacement out of.
Thanks so much
Sam

Re: Rear Differential, 1998 Mustang

it is a 7.5 inch differential and you need one from a 94-98 style as the 99-04 are a bit wider by about .75 inches per side. You can also use a GT 8.8 rear end, same fitment just stronger and has positive traction where yours does not

why are you replacing vs rebuilding or what not?

+1, but the new edge rear end is only .5" wider, not 3/4". It's really nice to have on an SN-95 since you can run a wider tire in the back without rubbing issues.

If you hunt around you can find a good 8.8 used for cheap, just be smart and replace all the fluid and AT LEAST the axle seals before you install it on your car.
