New Direction for my stang "Land Racing"

have decided to pursue a different direction in my quest for performance. I am going to set my sites on the Salt Flats and set my car to run there. I work with a group of guys that go there every year to run their Harleys on the flats. They have asked me to join, so I will be doing some changes to my car like having a quick change rear end to put on the car for better top end. I will also be doing some computer design work to come up with some options for better dynamics.

As for testing I have a closed runway at my disposal to do testing that is almost 2 miles long.

I think this will be fun!!!!

Sounds cool...you'll just need one hell of a high gearing to get the kind of top speed you'll need. Like....1.50's lol

Thats cool. I would look into a full underbody covering as my first mod to get rid of lift and help lower drag

might wanna switch out to a t-5 if not t-56 for the extra gearing..

Saleen kit. Best you can find without making your own kit.

A built one is. In last months MM&FF a Cobra owner who runs over 200MPH swaped his 5spd for the auto.

Saleen kit my ***.With all the holes in it to plug it would be a nightmare. I am already low enough I might get a Boss Shinoda chin spoiler or maybe a Roush front valance. I will need to make special plugs for the fog light holes and lower grill vents.

As far as my tranny is concerned I will stay as it is My quest is to have fun with what I got with the exception of rearend gears. The community of land racers really help out a lot and I will be able to get a lot of stuff from them

how far away is that from you corey? sounds like fun... but it sounds like your cars gonna almost become a hassle to ride around on the streets with the gearing youre gonna need.

Well good luck with this, you better get you a spare car to run around with and just use your current stang for this project only!

I will be testing at a closed runway next to my work it is over a miles long. I will keep the 7.5 and work on getting a get another rearend and something like a 2.08 gear set and work on having some custom plugs made for all the holes in the front of the car as well as some dome covers and steal rims or a set of moon rims. I am looking at getting Roush front valances. There are a lot of little things I need to do to get started

Yes the land speed guys are all Engineers, Mechanics and machine shop guys. There is stuff available for just about anything. Hell if more of you are interested I will continue to update and might even make available some of the stuff I come across or work on in my quest at high speed runs!!!

Well here is a update. I have access to 2.07 gear set for a 8.8 so I am in the works designing a quick change adapter for the rear end for swapping quickly for land racing.

I am also looking at materials to make removable plugs for all the holes in the front and finding out what valence or air dam would survive up front at speeds of 180!!

I will also be trying to find at least 2 people who want to travel with me to Bonneville Salt Flats next year or two. I am going as a spectator this year to learn and study all I need to know.

do you have enough power to get up to 180mph?

I would ask around and see what kind of power is needed to get the car up to that speed as there is a lot of force acting against it and the wind might overpower your motor.

This is going by other land racers and the catagory my car falls in. Now will I??? dont know. This is new for me. But that is why I am doing it. It is the challenge I am after. But I have people to help and they believe it is possible. But I have some work to do on the body. The mustang is not that bad aerodynamically if you plug all the holes and close the gap between the bumper and the ground. I will also be playing with some nitrous and other fuel possibilities. I have a ways to go yet. Everything is in what I call engineering phase.

I don't know if everything is as difficult as people are making it out to be. I mean, 180 is definitely high but 150 should be no problem. I can get my speedo to 140 moderately easily and 160 with some work. When it's at 160 I'm probably going around 145-150 so with work you should have no problem hitting that speed. 180 would definitely be a challenge though, good luck with that and post pictures with every new mod!
