the ONLY thing i'm looking to do is to firm up my tranny shifts and I have a friend with a predator. So i'll just use his plus you need to think that you can custom tune with the predator vs. the SCT chip you must send it in for a burn.

Dont be fooled by sct. Diablosport predator hold thousands of tune codes in the handheld. It picks out The proper tune by reading the items on the Vehicle. Then matching the proper tune. You can specify which Items are on the Vehicle when ordering the predator and diablosport will custom burn the code for the predator matching aftermarket items that you added to car. You can logg upto 90 min. of Vehicle Mapping and display on your computer so you can alter tune to you specs.
The Predator Pulles out the stock tune from Vehicle holds it into the Handheld then flashes in the performance tune into your Vehicle. This stock tune is important to have if you need to have your vehicle serviced by Manufacture. If this code is lost or altered they will give you the Voided Warranty Answer. The Tune can be further altered by you with he handheld. It will warn you if you go to far with the tune so that you dont reck your car.
The Predator can be used to check trouble codes of any 1986 to Present Ford Vehicle and Also can erase any code on vehicle.

I went with a predator because of the scan tool ability on any car, logging ability, etc... I'm impressed with it so far.. definite SOP difference, and if I ever need to get my car tuned on a dyno for perhaps, say, boost.... (which will be far in the distance if ever) and the handheld reaches its limits - I can just get something else and sell this as used, once you reflash back to stock you're good to go, plus once I put gears in it'll take me all of 5 minutes to set the gear ratio to have a correct speedo..
When you are purchasing a tuning product there are some things you should consider:
Consider the reputation and experience of the dealer you buy the product from. Some will just sell you an off the shelf tune and have no experience with custom tuning. Some have never been on a dyno and don't know anything tuning. You may think that your vehicle is not heavily modified enough for that to matter, but if you ever have any kind of problem your dealer's experience is going to be priceless.
There are some SCT dealers on the boards that have the fastest street driven V6s in the country and specialize in V6 tuning.
Consider the features and flexibility of the product. SCT's x-calibrator holds up to 3 custom programs + the stock program. The x-cal can hold an 87 and 93 octane tune so you don't have to run expensive premium gas all the time. If you buy an 05 Mustang the x-cal can be reprogrammed to work on that vehicle too. The x-cal is in the same price range as the predator.
I had a DiabloChip, they suck. I went to an SCT after I sold mine to a friend, and it owns the diablo in every way. But that's the chips, I've never used the tuners.
I would trust SCT just because it's run by a bunch of Ford guys whod esigned the ECU. Right? I dunno I'm rambling.
