cutting cats

I'm thinking of cutting 2 of my cats off because I want something that will make my car sound a little louder or meaner. Do think this would be a good idea or is it just gonna screw up my car really badly.

it wont screw your car up bul will prolly make a dtc, and you can just get a mean sound like that by getting duel exhaust, welding in some flowmaster mufflers

wait you already have flows, sorry, well u can cut ur cats but you will need mil eliminators for the post catylitic converter 02 sensors, because it will give you a check engine light without the mil eliminators

Good luck getting someone to cut those off for you

If you can get them off you will see a Check engine light without MIL's or a Chip.

if your cutting two off might as well nix them all.

I would recommend just buying a off road h pipe. It bolts right up to the headers.

You will fail emmissions without cats however

nah, it's cool. I'm laying off the modding for a while.

Besides, it's more fun to make fun of you and your inability to spell.

Speaking of spelling:

Two exhaust pipes = dual

If you are after just a louder deeper tone, why dont you just go with Turn Down, I have and its a deeper tone without hacking up your exhaust to death! Then you wont risk any codes and having to mess with all the stuff the others have mentioned!

Well I already have it coming straight out of the muffler so I don't think putting a turndown on it would make it louder.

Don't the V6 need some of the backpressure?

I think thats a myth... I have mac offroad 2.5" H pipe and Gt take offs... my car runs so much better than it did with stock exhaust... I don't see backpressure being a issue from my personal experience

I think its part myth and partly also has to do with how much horsepower you have, I know on my civic they talk about the car that are n/a with mainly stock engine need to have some backpressure, naturally if you run a 3 inch exhaust and dont have a turbo or s/c then your car will not run as well. I dont think it would cause a problem with your cars though!

you do need backpressure, it WILL move your tq and hp up in the power band.. you dont really lose it just move it up, you may loose hp though... at leasts on nearly every dyno ive seen on a near stock car its -5rwhp to plus 3-5rwhp~ and the tq is moved up a good bit.... it sbest to keep the backpressure on the v6 or get gears to compensate.

I get the impression you still have single exhausts with ONE flowmaster 50 muffler? If so you should have just gone with dual exhausts, hopefully you won't ever have to pass a sniffer emissions test, because you will fail. I have a Mac cat H and had to get mils on my GT because I kept getting a CEL when I would get into it hard.

Yes I only have one, I didn't go dual cuz everybody does that and I wanted to be different.

Actually with the O/R h-pipe being 2.5" and the GT take offs being 2.25", that's creating all the backpressure our cars need. A 3.8 is basically like a big block V8, we just lack to cylinders. If you took of of our cylinders which is .63L x 8 would give you a 5.1L V8, and a 4.2 would be a 5.6L. Now if you were to take most four cylinders to compare to a V8, you take a 1.8L, and that would only be a 3.6 V8, or even a 2.2L is still only a 4.4L V8. They're tiny and that's why smaller engines need more back pressure. Hopefully I didn't confuse you.

alright, I don't know if this muffler shop guy know what he is talking about but...
(for those who haven't heard, I have MAC lontube headers and an H-Pipe waiting to be put on. the guy at the muffler shop said the H pipe would make my car not run right going from 4 cats to 2. He said he'd do the job but it would make it not run right.)

I emailed the guy at American Motorsport asking if a chip will fix the problem of the car running rich, because I thought, with the H, the O2 sensors would pick up more oxygen and would add more fuel to the cylinders. The guy at the place said O2 sensors have nothing to do with the air/fuel mix, they just tell if my cats are working properly and if not, the check engine light will come on.

Is this true? and Does anybody know WHAT THE HECK THE MUFFLER SHOP GUY WAS TALKING ABOUT? Maybe I should just ask him but he is kinda stubborn and I don't know if he would explain it to me.

Help greatly appreciated
