They sound ricey IMO..it's hard to get a real good sounding muffler on a V6. I'm very happy with my takeoff's however.

its not a horrid sound, its an ok sound until 3k rpms then it gets ricy sounding but not horrid.... just about any aftermarket mufflers will sound the same on the v6.... at least all the ones i have heard and spintech seem to sound worse than flowmasters also. i would go with an oem gt take off exhaust and then you can change the mufflers out if you choose later on, this way you can give it a shot first and see if you like it.

The reason I like my takeoff's so much is because I don't get a drone while at highway speed. And it really isn't loud...just sounds good when I get on it, esp around 2500-3000

perhaps i will just get a take-off and have the shop weld it on up and fab some hangars.

or i could just go mufferless. would that sound horrid with just cats and straight pipes?

or how much should it reasonably cost to have a GT welded up in place of the y-pipe? cuz i got quoted like $300 somewhere.

yea, Brad's mach 1 takeoffs sound really good, being not too loud and no rice.... I am soon to have a local muffler shop put on some "mellowtones" which are supposed to be like flowmaster but sounding much better for a v6, and a little quieter

Takeoffs are the way to go. then if you want something else muffler wise, you can just swap them out. I've got takeoffs, and I'm going to leave them with the factory GT mufflers. I don't htink there's much if any HP to be gained by swapping them out, and I like the tone. They're quiet at idle, but they sound really aggressive at WOT, and not ricey like some of the aftermarket stuff does. And they ARE all stainless. I'd have to say it's the smart way to go.

I paid 127 for the takeoffs shipped to my door, and 100$ for the shop to weld/fit them up. A custom fabbed H pipe was included in that 100$.

i'm definately lookin more for sound quality and benefit to future upgrades than immediate power gain. cuz right now my sound just seems way to mellow. my friend's POS saturn sounded more aggresive than my stang today at the stop light at WOT.

Get yourself a pair of turbo type generic mufflers, they sound very good on a V6 and and cost like less than half what flows do.

The flowpath afterburners are very good sounding mufflers...and cost alot less than flowmasters. There's also a new muffler out called flowsounds, they are supposedly made my flowmaster, just dont' have the flowmaster stamp on them so they're 20-30 dollars cheaper a piece...

flow 40's dont sound to bad on them. but warlocks sound pretty good on v6's aswell goto mustangexhaust.com and sign up (its free) and theres about 200+ sound clips...not all are 3.8 though.

im debating to putting warlocks on the 88 or 1chamber flows

Question Re: sound of flowmaster 40 on v6?

Hi, I've got an 04 V6, with flow 40's there ok, they sound better then my friends mac's, the 40's are melo until you punch the gas.
BUT I wish I could get the rumble of a V8, today at the light in front of me was a GT WOW.nice sound.

You guys think removing the Y pipe and puting in an H will make a sound difference?
And how about headers, will that make a diff.?

Don't get headers unless you get long tubes. Not worth it until major engine work, but your sound will change a bit.

Re: sound of flowmaster 40 on v6?

had True Dual JBA's put on my car about 2 week's ago, well 2week before Christmas now but I love em. I went with an x-pipe that I got from the muffler shop for $50.00 instead of the H pipe that it comes with. If you are looking for a more deeper/hollower sound I would put the H pipe on. There is a guy on a forum named Sancho some where who installed the same system I have except he used the H pipe. Now I honestly did'nt think there would be that much of a dif over the sound but its a night & day diff between the X p's & H p's sound but there is. When I got my x p installed it was a lot more quiter than Sancho's. Mine kinda sound's more along the lines of a Porsh, not a winy import, more of a deep vacum Porsha. It's got a nice deep vacum type sound to it, not much crackling. ( not winey like flowmasters or the Magnaflows) Even when im at like 5500 rpm's screamin its a respectable/classy sound. A sports car sound not so much a hot rod sound. Sancho's had a way better sound to his. It sounded more beasty & loud with the h pipe. More along the lines of what you all are looking for. The flowmasters are a quit ricey. I heard some on a 2002 meybe? not sure Monte Carlo with S/C. Was not to impressed.

So if your concerned about sound H pipe is the way to go but only with JBA's. I have'nt heard much about H- pipes and magnaflow or flowmaster. I went with the x pipe for a better flow which in the long run will produce more HP. A lot of people will say that X pipe's & True dual exhaust dont give no gain over the single exhaust for V6's. I say that any True dual kit is going to help it out no matter what & and as for the x pipe not giving so much of a gain, It's not going to show a " Crap a Brick" improvement like they do for the V8's but commen sence should tell you just by looking at it that the air is going flow just a tad bit better than the H Pipe.

I would go with the JBA True Dual ( with H pipe) Set up at v6mustangstuff.com

Thats the exact sound your looking for right there. Just make sure you use a H-Pipe.

We'll never get the V8 sound or the sound we all want out of 6 cylnders.

Hope this helps. I got the H-pipe still if any one needs it.

Sorry no sound clip.

Re: sound of flowmaster 40 on v6?

Thanks alot for the info, like I said I have only one guy I know with a V6 and his sound, well its not there.

I'm going to check out the H pipe on the site you suggested, and I have to say the Flow 40's are new ( package with Y $400 ) I just had them put in less then a year ago, so I'm going to try the H with them for now.

Hopefully I could get this done with in 2 weeks, I'll let you guys know how it comes out. Unless there is someone with the set up already?
