Mustang Doors

The mustang is known for having lengthy doors. Also, I've noticed many mustangs sound like **** when the doors shuts...lots of rattle. I'd like to improve the doors firmness and want them to shut like a BMW or as close to it as I can. Anybody have recommendations on how I can improve on reducing rattle when closing my doors???

Re: Mustang Doors

more door seal volume? They shut fine for me~ the window being separate from the boarder (just by itself) causes a little flex that has to happen for the door to shut~ mine doesnt rattle.

Re: Mustang Doors

Hhhmm...anyone experiencing excessive rattle in their doors?

They shut fine for a mustang, but they don't have a clean, crisp and tight sound like other cars. I want to kind of upgrade.

Re: Mustang Doors

not sure, but i'm guessing the other cars have a frame over the window area? were mustangs don't, i don't think mine rattle and they close pretty easy (granted from what the dealer told me the car was garaged for basically its whole life so that might help it also)

Re: Mustang Doors

Buy a 20 year old convertible mustang with no subframe connectors and get back with me on shutting doors. Until you have experienced that don't complain.

As far as getting a door that shuts like a BMW...sell the Mustang and buy a freaking BMW if you want a door that shuts like that. I'll take you on in a race either way...and win.

Re: Mustang Doors

If you've ever seen inside of a luxury car door you'll see why it's so different. Start off by lining the inner skin and both side of the frame with dynamat, then wrap everything else that may move suck as wiring and door lock rods with feltLine the back of the door panel itself with dynamat and felt line all of the plastic tabs that hold it to the door, then you're all set.

Re: Mustang Doors

Pretty much any door that doesnt have the window completely framed in is going to experience some rattle from the window eventually. Even my Neon did it. Its annoying but theres not a whole lot you can do about it short of sound insulation or replacing the window bracketry or just checking to see if its all still tight. I know the neons rattle was fixed after I snugged down the brackets for the window.

Re: Mustang Doors

Mustangs are NOT luxury cars...Mustangs are typically made with cheap, crappy, plastic interior parts...It is what it is...Mustangs are nothing more than a motor, transmission, rearend and 4 wheels with sheet metal and some crappy plastic trimmings...It's called HP for cheap, thats what pony cars were created for and are still for the most part today....

That being sad, if you don't want cheap, crappy plastic interior, don't buy a mustang...otherwise, get over it and work on modding something useful...like the drivetrain or the suspension...

Just me $.02...

You know the problem your self already, long, heavy doors and as stated cheap interior plastics with not full frame above the window cause your issue. Your mustang will always have door noise and alignment issues your just SOL. Subframe Connectors may make it seem firm if you want to look in that direction, but thats not really going to help you.

Re: Mustang Doors

I personally choose the mustang over luxury ~ no need to pay 3 times the price for something I will enjoy 1/3rd as much

Re: Mustang Doors

go jeep style and just remove the doors, than you ahve no rattle at all and you just saved yourself a lot of weight.

on a serious note, if it bothers you that much, i would take it apart and see whats rattling, otherwise i would just ignore it, it does what it does.
