cranking

well i kno this is for a stang but im looking in to this project car, but it doesnt start, it seems to be in good condition but it just cranks. and its cranks instantly. but it just will not turn, does any one have any ideas what it could be, can i get like a little list of them? thanks.

it cranks or doesnt it? making the noise doesnt count? does it actually crank then wont idle and goes dead?

i think he means it won't turn the engine over, but will make the noise where it's trying to.

yea u can tell its trying but it just will not kick over, u kno that noise it makes like when its cold in one of our cars, like two or three sec before its starts? its makes that noise but will not start.

it's cranking, but its not catching... starters good, batterys' good, it'd help to know what kinda car it is.. if its an 80's honda or other japanese import don't bother.. it could be any one of the 60+ vacuum lines causing problems

could be fuel delivery (very likely) do you hear the fuel pump prime when you hit the key on? (or is it carbeurated?)
spark delivery (almost as likely)
crank sensor (likely)
intake leak (very likely) such as a blown intake or head gasket, not allowing compression..

compression issue (timing jumped.. though it wouldn't sound right when its turning over if its this)

.. ... it could be any of a number of things

o sorry it a 1993 probe gt with that 2.5 liter v6 24 valve. so its not a carb car.
