Re: any upgrades for my 3.9 liter mustang

As upton7 said, it is mainly based on what you're willing to spend.

A good start for a low budget is a cai, exhaust, underdrivepulley (if not supercharging later), gears/tlok and a good tune. These "bolt ons" will wake your car up a noticeable amount from stock. Nothing incredible like a power adder, but an auto will see nice improvements from the tune/gears/tlok.
(gears/tlok will not increase hp, but give better launches and acceleration)

A higher budget will get you a built engine: h/c/i or power adder: supercharger, turbo, nitrous

Here's an article on what you should base your decisions and spending on.

As upton7 said, the install/cost of gears/tlok alone would consume all $900, unless you got lucky like herb and found a reputable shop that will do it right the first time.

With $900, you could get some supporting mods/bolt ons (cai, udp, you already have exhaust, an sct or diablosport tuner (which will useful in the future as well), and put the remaining towards the gears/tlok project.

That is the most bang for the buck mod you can do the v6 outside of a power adder, which will cost you at least a couple thousand.

Nitrous can be had for $400-700, maybe cheaper, but its not good to just throw nitrous on and run it. The stock internals will only hold up so long. Not to mention your drivetrain.

Are you manual or auto?

Re: any upgrades for my 3.9 liter mustang

If power is the goal then a ported lower intake and a professinal dyno tune would be the best reliable gain. If you're lucky you might be able to find a used upper and lower intake that's p/p.

A good tune will help you out a bit. It will wake up your tranny and squeeze out some extra hp. Plus you can use it in the future to adjust the speedo for tire/gear changes...and you can re-tune when you add more mods to the car.

True gears cost about 180 plus 75 for the install kit. Got luckly with the tuner Justin From VMP was down my way picking up a motor We had talked on the phone about a SCT chip the week befor his trip to St.pete. So he called me at work, stop by and installed the chip ,did a seat of the pants tune.
I can say how much I paid for the chip with tune But it was a GREAT deal The shop that did the gears also dyno tuned the car again a good price Dynoed at 188 RWHP 215 RWTQ
Shop around and you can get some great deals It also help I manage a paintball field on the weekend and have master the art of Bartering

Re: any upgrades for my 3.9 liter mustang

alright dude, if you've only got about $900 to spend. 3:73s for auto($270) (idk where dude got 4:10s for an auto, your daily streets gonna suck ***), SCT Excalibrator 2 reprogrammer($300), and performance distributor coil pack($180). You can get the gears and reprogrammer through americanmuscle.com....good ppl and great prices. and the coil pack through performacedistributors.com.....suppose to cut about .3ths off your 1/4mi, inprove 0-60, and inprove fuel economy. not only that, you can turn your shift pressure up with the reprogrammer for quicker harder shifts. Anywho, thought I'd drop my 2cents.
