CAI + Check Engine Light

I recently bought a 2000 v6 mustang and put a CAI on it. I just had to get it inspected yesterday, but was told it failed emissions because it was too rich... Does that mean that its getting too much oxygen because of the CAI or what? If so will running higher octane fuel help this? Also would i be able to get the check engine light to go off by myself? thanks for any input.

Re: CAI + Check Engine Light

if it had to much air it'd be running lean you have something blocking the air which is causing less air and more fuel which is a rich mixture

Re: CAI + Check Engine Light

Clean your MAF The MAF is a device that is used to determine the mass of air entering the intake. The cars PCM will take readings from the MAF and determine the optimal AFR (Air Fuel Ratio) needed with the air that is coming in. air filter makers have created air filters that contain oil on them, and that can possibly go through the air intake, and some of this oil can get on the MAF.

Are you getting any codes ??

Re: CAI + Check Engine Light

Thanks guys. It turns out, i rigged the mass air adapter bc i didnt have the right size, and its blocking about 40% of the airflow on the new CAI so i just ordered an adapter 40 bucks later it should be fixed. thanks again.
