I would get some long tube headers, with a O/R h-pipe and then get some GT-take offs with some Flowmasters. That's what I think. At first it won't sound that great because your car is mainly stock, or i'm assuming it is. But once you add a cam, you'll get an awesome grumble at idle. I have a movie of my car here some where.

I've seen a few good deals out there ranging from $60 to $140 shipped for takeoffs. All you gotta do is look
All you would want to do is change the mufflers and either get a custom h or get one of the bolt-on catted or offroad h-pipes from mac or any of the other manufacturers. It all depends on how strict your emissions are. Up here in NJ, I had to leave the cats on.

I still think I may switch over to these other mufflers...give a little more sound inside, and still not real ricey up high, and only like 40 bucks for 2 of them.

And sometimes it's just as cheap to get all new pipes run...if you know someone in the business. I probably could have gotten all new pipes for a better price if I really wanted...

Well where are you from? And yeh, takeoff's are exactly that, someone takes off the stock exhaust from their GT and sells it. I got mine off ebay for a great price, just shop around and wait for a good deal. Or...just ask around at local exhaust shops and see what they say. Just don't let them talk you into just coming from your y-pipe back, either run true duals as I have (cut off y-pipe and ran a seperate pipe from each side of my engine) or get a H-pipe or X-pipe. All those do is the H-pipe runs a pipe from one side of the exhaust to the other to equalize pressure, and the X-pipe does exactly as it sounds, makes an X.

and to offer my opinion, it really matters what your plans are for your mustang. if you just want bold ons, then GT takeoffs are perfect for you. they're well priced, good value, and sound nice on a v6. mac, flows and dynomax's also sound decent, and aren't too expensive
if you plan on doing engine mods at any point, you might consider a less restrictive exhaust. slp loudmouth, borla, bassani... these won't sound bad on a stock mustang, but when you start to beef up your engine, the sound will improve A LOT. but remember, these systems ARE EXPENSIVE. think $400 at least, plus installation
also a think to consider is your exhaust pipe diameter. right now, your stock exhaust is 2 inches... VERY restrictive. gt takeoffs are 2.25 inches, MUST LESS RESTRICTIVE.. you'd also need a 2.25 inch H or X pipe to connect your stock exhaust manifold to your takeoffs...
OR, if you plan to do a lot of power modding, you might choose to go with 2.5 inch exhaust (this is perhaps TOO freeflowing for a near stock v6, only those rebuilding engines need exhaust this big) ...but in this case, you'll eventually (or all at once) need to change out your entire exhaust system. you'd have a shop take off your stock exhaust from the headers to tailpipes, and you'd need new headers (long tube or short tube) a matching H or X pipe, and your choice of catback exhaust systems.. ALL with 2.5 inch piping
you also need to consider your finances. changing your exhaust can be cheap or very expensive, so it's smart to have an idea where you want to go with your mustang. a GT takeoff exhaust and H pipe will cost you $250-$400, depending on the shop you go to. you can pick a different catback from mac, flowmaster or dynomax and still stay around that price range...
but if you are going to change your entire exhaust system, if could very well end up costing you over $1000 (mine was extremely expensive, $1000 in parts and $500 labor)
so.. consider where you want to take your mustang, and how long it will take you to get it there...
lol, sorry for the novel

For comparison here are 2 charts 1st is a Dynomax Ultraflow freeflowing muffler. 2nd is a Dynomax Super Turbo which is a chambered muffler like a flowmaster but with better flow and great sound. from 95 to 2002 Super turbos were on all Roush mustangs. Also you can see from the 2 charts Flow thru muflers flow more than twice the CFM's that Chambered or Turbos do.
Look at Chart 1 with the Ultraflows and you can see how poorly Flowmasters actually Flow. This robs you of power!!!

If you want the bad ass sound now get Super Turbos!!!
If you plan to install Head Cam and intakes or go Supercharger get Ultraflows
Super turbos can be found at autoparts stores for $35 to $40 each with sales as low as $30 each
Ultraflows will set you back Welded about $70-$80 and stainless around $90-$100 each but once again you can find them sometimes at a discount

turbo mufflers sound ok i had them on my old v6... but I would highly recomment you get a GT take off and have her put on, then you can see if you like the mellow low tone sound, if not then chop off the mufflers and stick on what ever you want.
