98 Ford Mustang Odometer issues

My Odometer stopped working ... the speedometer is fine as it marks the speed correctly, but the mileage and tripometer are stuck and no longer record my total vehicle mileage and trip mileage, what could this be? Do i need to replace the odometer entirely?

Re: 98 Ford Mustang Odometer issues

It could be a worn gear. Probably just easier to replace it. I know they had the kit at Late Model Restoration Supply for 24.95. You might be able to find them elsewhere cheaper. Maybe check your local ford dealer to compare prices.

Replace the entire odometer? Thats about $500 aint it?

What do you mean by gear, the actual gear that turns the numbers?

Re: 98 Ford Mustang Odometer issues

The 94-98's used an actual gear to turn the odometer numbers. The 99+ were all digital. Apparently there are two gears that wear out. A normal pinion-like gear, and a worm gear. Replacing those will get your odometer turning numbers again.

I don't have a 94-98, so I haven't replaced one before. I would imagine someone on here has. If anything, maybe the new kit will have instructions to install.
