Transmission problem.... I think...HELP!

Hi guys. I have a 5 speed 2006 4.0L V6 Mustang. I just got back home from Cali a week ago, and i started noticeing that when I shift into 3rd, 4th, 5th gear while im driving normally it takes a second for the car to engage. The rpms will go all the way up to around 5200 rpms till it catches and the rpms gradually go back to normal. Also, there are no funny noises under the hood and when the gears catch, the doesnt jolt or anything. what can it be, it is starting to get annoying. Thanks guys for the help.

alrighty, you said 5 speed, is it stick or auto? (do the 06's have a 5 speed auto?) if it was a stick id say your clutch is slipping... if its an auto... i have no idea what it would do that in only those 3 gears cept that you would want to check your trans fluid first.

thats all i can really say from my experience...

I'm assuming it is a standard transmission. Sounds like the clutch is going or went rather.

Re: Transmission problem.... I think...HELP!

if the clutch is out and the shifter is in gear and the rpms go up but the car doesnt move then the clutch isnt grabbing either because its worn or the clutch isnt adjusted right and its not coming back out all the way

in first and second where does the clutch grab? Just off the floor? or do you have to let the clutch pedal most of the way out?
