Supercharged V6

Is it possible to swap out a normal 3.8 in an 01 for the Supercharged 3.8 that Ford used to put in the Thunderbird and Cougar?

BTW, Noob here. Cool site.

Re: Supercharged V6

Well, it's certainly isn't impossible, but it's not as simple as bolting right up and going either. I'd take a moment to see where you want to go with the car. Typically on here we'll tell you engine swaps can be done, but aren't as efficient as buying a car with the desired engine in it. But...if upgrading cars is out of the question and if you're hell-bent on doing it and have the mechanical abilities/resources to do 99% of the work, there are some options.

The easiest way is to have the complete engine, along with it you need the ecu, harness, and some supporting stuff.

Many people have done it, but the ones I know of did it to pre 99 v6s. Some guys at allfordmustangs and v6power.net did it on 94/95's(145hp stock) and ended up with 198rwhp . Your 01 has 190 at the crank. You're probably at about 168-170 rwhp give or take manual or auto. Full bolt ons and a good tune and you're pretty close to 198rwhp, just something to keep in mind.

It's up to you, if you have the complete engine and want to do it, go for it, it has been done. But if you're looking at options and are determined to do an engine swap, I would consider a v8 engine swap. Again, the easy way to do this is a donor car...however, the easiest way is to sell your current car and buy a v8.

Re: Supercharged V6

you can swap the entire engine over, but not just the supercharger as they are very different. For the money your MUCH better off doing an M112 supercharger swap onto your car (using an 03/04 stock cobra supercharger and adaptor plate etc) but you have NO intercooler of anytype... so the temps are VERY hot. You could do a standard supercharger or a turbocharger.

Your looking at 3-6k invested for this (for the m112 its around 2-3k) and end results should be between 250-300rwhp with around 8-12psi needed.

Re: Supercharged V6

To put an M90 on a new edge you'd lose power. You have to run ****ty single port heads for it work.

Re: Supercharged V6

^^^Yah, all the guys I've seen do it had 94-98 single ports. I would do either the m112route (which isn't even the best way) or a vortech supercharger.

Re: Supercharged V6

That's on forged internals, so now why don't you show me.

You lose 40hp just by swapping the heads from the stock 99+ 3.8.

An M90 isn't a bad S/C, it just looks better mounted on a Roush. And even then, I think Roush needs to up their game.

uh, yeah, considering what you can do with a forged bottom end. Do you even have a clue what you are talking about?

considering the SC has hypereutectic pistons, forged rods and steel crank (not entirly forged)
We are talking about what it does not what it could do if you turned up the boost.

If he put single port heads AND Intake yes he would loose 40 hp BUT were talking heads and supercharger so he would be making 40 more hp than he is now.
Would he gain more just switching to ported heads with bigger valves ,ported intakes and a cam probably.
but no hes not going to end up with 150 hp after the single port heads AND m90 as you are suggesting.

Re: Supercharged V6

building the 3.8 to a 4.2 you can pull 250rwhp or so~ which is more than you will get with that supercoupe engine near stock.
