Which Tuner to Get?

I tinker with older Mustangs but don't know too much about the newer computer controlled ones, so I need some help/suggestions.

I have a 2007 V6, while it was under warranty I had a cold air intake and dual exhaust put on. The dealership reprogrammed the computer and it runs great. I now took out the 7.5 and put in an 8.8 with 3.73 gears. I want to get the speedo corrected for the new gears, raise the rev limiter and speed limiter. I checked a couple shops and they want to charge about double what I would pay for a tuner. So I'm thinking about getting a tuner in case I make more changes later.

So I have a few questions about tuners. I've looked a little at the Diablo and SCT. Both show they can make the changes I need. They seem to have preprogramed tunes, are they limited to that or can you make individual adjustments? Also, since I do not have a stock tune currently will the tuners plug in and determine that or would I need to take my computer back to stock first?

thanks for any help or suggestions.

one suggestion would be if you plan of adding some real power adders like S/C or T/C find out what your local dyno uses, some only use one some use both

Re: Which Tuner to Get?

Whatever you do, don't buy the off the shelf tuners. They suck compared to getting a custom tune done or just tuning it yourself. I would check out VMP Tuning, I've heard they do a good job tuning v6's using SCT.

The tuner will also make the bolt ons like exhaust and CAI more effective, and seriously help your tranny if you're an auto.

any good tuner will make fixing the speedo and rev limiter VERY easy, you just calculate the revolutions per mile and alter them as needed. I good tune (dyno tune) will result in more power as well rather than just a can tune.

Re: Which Tuner to Get?

I've got an 07 v6 and I went with SCT. Go to VMP and get ahold of Justin. He did wonder's with mine. I had exhaust and cai when I got it first and have since put the pulley and the 4.10 gears with a tlok and everything's still adjustable with the unit. Even before the gears and pulley it woke her up immediately. Highly recommended as is Justin. he knows his SCT.
