yea, he's single port if a box upper still counts as single port... and yea, that's what the 4.2 was making N/A

Of course it is still Single Port, same basic heads
and same stock lower, but ported pretty well.
From what I know of his porting work on the NA
combo, he could hog it more, add big valves and
get more HP/TQ unless he has already done that...

He's got skills, we traded some porting info and his
5.0 porting is not bad either. He shot me a bunch
of flow #'s for step-by-step mods, quite educational.
5.0 Iron Heads really blow, but Matt did pretty well.

His boxed upper is pretty primitive but that is great,
his design is better the more boost you throw at it
and he's getting up arouind 2 bar now so flow distribution
is evening out quite well apparently. He has plenty of
plenum there too, looks like it's bigger than an SSX upper
and according to my knowledge base bigger is better for
high boost SC/Turbo setups :D

Kudos Matt! :good: :good: :good:

1 to 2 more # of boost and you will have to change the
name of this post to 600 RWHP Broken!

Impressive. What gear does he have out back? 3.73's? Even if he didn't win, it'd be a hell of a show. I'd put a buck or 2 on that race.

Smurphy, your garage link is teh d3d.

Fixit
Oh yeah, well, my garage is now teh fixed. (BTW, those HP/TQ numbers are stock numbers. Haven't gotten official ones since the 2.76 pulley swap and such).

For the work he has done, he certainly deserves to, and more than likely would, beat me. It may take good or great driving on my part for me to win. However, like I have always stated to other people, while I believe my car to be faster than the car I line up with, if I do get beat, that is just more of reason to do the next planned mod or mods. :D And if I get beat too bad, it is all the more reason to go whipple....then we will talk

lol year, there is a guy local with a black 03 cobra, kenney bell twin screw pushing some massive boost he is WAY on up there in the power. I belive he put down 700rwhp/tq not to long ago. With that irs... he is still at a disadvantage compared to a live axle on the strip though... but stick a live axle in and your good to go.

and matt has 4.30s in his car at least he did last time i talked to him

Actually he has 3.55's in the rear at the present time.

i wonder how long that block will last at those power levels

ive seen many 5.0 blocks split

The V6 block is said to be better built than a 5.0 block, but that could just
mean in practical terms that it too would split in 1/2 at 500 RWHP too.
That would mean it is stronger in terms that each cylinder can handle
more HP than a 5.0 on a per-cylinder basis... but Matt is over that!
SC blocks are heavier and stronger, that is what the 99^ blocks are
patterned after according to Pete (who works at Ford) and he said it
was 99-04 blocks that were strongest, however 01-04 were internally
balanced which helps too. (less stress on mains and such)

To be safe Matt will probably yank the intakes and inspect the lifter valley,
that is where the blocks develop cracks. He works for Delk and they have
probably split several 5.0 :D

as far as i know, in 96, ford started using the SC block and head design in all the RWD 3.8L cars, but in 99, they were further refined, thats what i gathered in my research

Matt may have exceeded that 500rwhp mark, but it doesnt always mean the block will last, i have seen 750rwhp out of a stock block, and it lasted for almost a racing season, when it went, it went with a bang though, it was nasty

That would be even better! 96-04 is a lot of blocks to choose from...

ill try to recheck my sources, just so i dont spread wrong info around

I know you are right about the heads, they have the SC head's deck surface
but I dunno about heat treating... that would be nice! They also have the 7mm
valvestem upgrades starting in 1996 which the SC heads did not have.

interesting, i wasnt aware of the heat treating, ill see if i can find more info

its funny, when youre car doesnt have any of the good 3.8L stuff, you learn a good amount about the stuff others take for granted and care less about

Great work Matt! Is this essentially the same top end that you used on the NA
3.8 that did so well? Stock valves and same port work? It's really doing well if
it is! Keep up the good work! :good:

yea its the same heads, cam and lower intake that i used on the N/A setup. it still has the stock 94-95 valves and the same port work. the only difference is the box upper intake that i made for it.

If you ever want to BV those heads and max out the lower give
me a call and I can fill you in on the peculiarities of those 2 items :)
