MAF Po102

Last week i got low on gas and the car wouldnt move when i hammered down on the accelerator. I filled it up and let it run for 20 minutes and i was able to drive it but now the engine light is on with a Po102 code. I have a bbk cai, so yesterday i cleaned the filter and the maf (very dirty) and reset the computer but the light came back on. Could the maf sensor be bad and are there any ways you can tell? Also where is a good site to find one, ive been looking on ebay but thats about the only place i can find one.

Re: MAF Po102

right after you clean your air filter (re oil it) the oil will be generally to much (its hard to get the exact amount everywhere... just the way it is) so the extra oil gets sucked into the intake and gunks up the maf and such.

Get some on contact no residue electronic cleaner and clean the maf really good, also if you wish (if idle is off or bad) clean the IAC, its the little cylinder round thing by the throttle body~ it controls idle~ and may be gunked up a little as well, you can try the maf first if you wish.

Also make sure the air filter is tight and no air is escaping or getting in thats not trough the air filter.

Re: MAF Po102

Light came back on the way to work today, after cleaning the maf, iac, and the throttle seems to be running alot better than it was. It doesnt seem to respond well when i accelerate from a stop. Anything else i can try or should i start with replacing the maf and iac?

Re: MAF Po102

those iac's can be pesky, just keep an eye and if idle issues come back replace it. You can make double sure the maf is good and clean else you can try a replacement then.

Re: MAF Po102

Is there a way to tell if the maf or iac is malfunctioning when they are unplugged? If they are unplugged is it going to increase or decrease my performance?

Re: MAF Po102

hmm the IAC im not sure about, sometimes they just mess up. I am betting they are kinda working and unplugging them will just make it worse.

you'll get surging or variance in idle speed when the IAC is unplugged it should die or almost stall out with the IAC with the IAC plugged back in the idle surges high, then immediately settles back to normal

Re: MAF Po102

automatic transmission it should idle at something in the 600 to 650 rpm range in drive. That would have the idle in park around 800 with no A/C and around 900 with A/C.

Re: MAF Po102

alright so my car idles to 750rpm when it starts up and falls down to 500rpm in park. In drive it jumps up to 650rpm and abot 750 with the ac on. When i unplug the maf it doesnt change at all. Shouldnt unplugging the maf cause a decrease in performance? Can't hear any leaks. I feel like its the maf.

Re: MAF Po102

unplugging the maf should make it run horrible and die~ I forgot to plug mine in one time and I had black smoke out the back of my car from running very rich lol.

you can probably grab a sensor at a junk yard cheap~ you can check the voltage of it if you want to see if its in spec (not sure what spec is(

Re: MAF Po102

when its plugged in it runs the same as unplugged (very sluggish), so that makes me think it is for sure the maf. is there anywhere i can get just the sensor or does it always come with the housing or spector is that what you ment when you said to go to a junkyard.
