Not being a Jack***

Is it cheaper to convert a v6 stang to 4.2L, than it is to get a gt, just wondering how much it cost ,/ and saves over buying a gt, because it seems to be something lots on here are doing, Thanks

It's always easier to get a GT...but as far as costs, I dunno man. Most ppl have enough sunk in their cars with body stuff, that they'll never get it back out of it if they just sell it. Hence the reasoning behind beefing up the v6

you can build a 3.8 motor for very cheap, you can get a motor from a junk yard for 100 or less...

heads/cam/intakes = 2000 including little this and thats like gaskets and head bolts

bottom end will run you 2000 for forged internals, crank, machine work, honning, etc... you can go alot cheaper and just use oem 4.2 internals and crank for around 300 bucks~

then you got to pop the old motor out and put the new one in....

if you simply just want the 4.2 you can do this very cheap the parts can be had extreamly cheap... then just got to install them.

what you are saying is pretty much the same when it comes to a GT and a cobra... maybe thats easier to understand. you could just buy a cobra but you could mod the crap out of the GT. its preference as well as money. you could mod a v6 to smoke a GT and even a cobra with the right amount of money. i personally love my v6 but i plan on getting a GT this summer. i think im the only one on here that is doing that besides mineralgray who just got a GT because his v6 was totalled. there was a few reasons why im trading her in too. one of which is because i want a 5 speed. even once i get my GT there will be plenty of v6s that will smoke me.. i dunno.. just my two cents.

If you skipped forged internals and stayed stock it isn't expensive at all

yes.....it all depends.

i was able to beat just about any GT here that wasn't 'tuned'.

costs:

$3700 for vortech s-trim
$1000 for install/dyno/sct chip

ran consistent 13.7's-13.9's and one 13.5

stock GT w/ a good driver will run a low 14. (assuming its '99 plus)

rpm mustangs. http://rpm-mustangs.com/cart/home.php

located in cali. you'll need a 4.2l shortblock from there or a salvage one.

you won't really see much power upgrade until you start doing things to the block. like me if i were to get the shortblock in addition to my supercharger i'd see some reallly good numbers.

the big issue isnt only cost, but getting the work done

many shops have never touche these V6's, and dont want to mess with it for that very reason, they dont know enough about em, and a shot that will do the work would charge an arm and a leg

If they won't work on v6 mustangs then they are mildly retarded. There are tons of shops around here that will rebuild a V6 Mustang engine... if you can't do it or are afraid to you def. should not be a mechanic....
