Question 2000 v6 true dual exhaust kit?

Hello guys!

My next mod is deffinately going to be true duals!
I want more power and a better deeper sound! A nice growl!

I was first going to go with the pypes true dual kit for the v6 with some violator mufflers but the guy at the shop said the violators sound bad on a v6 and i should go with the streetpro mufflers.

I want your opinion or maybe you know a nice "bolt on" kit for a 2000 v6. (no off-road please) i want true duals with a nice deep sound... Can you please help?

Thanks!

Re: 2000 v6 true dual exhaust kit?

And also... Do you guys think true dual is better? Or would a dual exhaust bolted to the stock y pipe be as good?

Thanks again!

Re: 2000 v6 true dual exhaust kit?

I have the pypes converter back system with the street pro mufflers and I like it...It's has a deep idle similar to a GT. There is more of a race tone when you accelerate..it's unique, but not deep. The violators do sound like crap on a v6, they are made for the v8's. Borla's have a nice tone on the v6's, but they are pricey. Flowmasters with dumps before the axle sound pretty good as well.

Whether you get the entire kit that bolts up to the headers or not is up to you. With a setup like the full pypes one, you will have better sound, and gain more power over using a y-pipe bolt on exhaust. Usually you will pay more for the full exhaust system than the y-pipe (converter back) system, so take that into consideration since exhaust is normally bought for show/sound rather than performance gains.

IMO, I would go with some sort of full system. I was cheap, still have the y-pipe and I want to get rid of it. You could buy the pypes system that comes with the catted x-pipe, or have custom piping made and just use mufflers of your choosing. You could also buy a GT exhaust and have a shop cut out the y-pipe and weld two pipes up to your stock piping with the cats.

I'd listen to some clips, some other mustangs in person if possible, and do research on brands that interest you. You don't want to buy something that you'll regret buying a week later.

Re: 2000 v6 true dual exhaust kit?

THANKS MAN!

YEA, I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT CLIPS ON YOUTUBE BUT THEY DONT USUALLY SOUND THE SAME IN PERSON U KNOW?

I AM REALLY INTERESTED IN BUYING THE WHOLE PYPES KIT THAT COMES WITH THE CATTED X PIPE (HI-FLOW CATS) AND THE STREET PRO MUFFLERS. IF YOU SAY THEY SOUND CLOSE TO A V8 THEN THATS GOOD! I WOULD LIKE MAYBE A DEEPER SOUND IF POSSIBLE BUT I DONT WANNA GO AND BUY DIFFERENT PARTS FROM DIFFERENT PLACES... ILL RATHER BUY THE WHOLE KIT AND PUT IT ALL TOGETHER AT ONCE.

SO U THINK I SHOULD GO WITH THAT BOLT ON KIT FROM PYPES?

Re: 2000 v6 true dual exhaust kit?

That one looks good, but it looks like it comes with an off-road pipe. May want to check into that. Like I said, the idle is real nice, once the engine settles, you get a nice deep idle similar to a GT. Cold starts are nice and loud. Acceleration is not crazily deep, though not many systems on the v6 are deep bast 2000 rpms. And it is quiet, that's good with a sixer. Loud and raspy is annoying. I've gotten compliments about the exhaust from guys with older cobras and GT's, so it must sound pretty good outside the car.

Here's a video I found on youtube a while back. This is probably the closest sounding video to the actual exhaust. This mustang has the exact system you want with cats. Mine doesn't sound this high pitched, but I don't have an x-pipe either. Please excuse the dip**** trying to do a donut...

Okay so I didn't really read the previous posts but I noticed something today as I was flipping through the Brothers catalog.

Borla (if you can afford it), apparently the GT or the V6 setup comes with an adapter for the V6 so you can have dual exhaust. Forget which but basically it just allows you to bolt right on and give you some great sounding exhaust.

Re: 2000 v6 true dual exhaust kit?

Nice video! I actually like that sound at idle... Its good!

I went to the borla website and it says that they currently have nothing for the v6 stang... But i have heard a lot of ppl like the borla mufflers.

I think i might just go with that kit... It might b the best thing around for now!

Re: 2000 v6 true dual exhaust kit?

Woops, I think it was for the 4.0L engine and priced over $1000 :surprised:

EDIT: I found the part# in the Brothers Cataloge (and Borla's part# as well). Part # BOR14878F, although a google search brought up little about it. I'm assuming it is no longer in production. Here's a site for it anyway:
http://www.msperformanceonline.com/bor14878f.html

I'm sure that some of our site sponsors can get a hold of it though if it's only just a rarity.

This is a good clip and it's almost dead on to what mine sounds like. I have the same setup as him.

I had my body shop order it for me. I couldn't find anyone selling a sonic blue one, so I had them order it, and they got it pretty cheap. You can find them off wrecked GT's and 99 cobras (still said mustang the bumper) in silver. Prestige Mustang has takeoffs in good condition from wrecked stangs for $350 plus shipping.

Or you can try and find someone selling one or trade bumpers if they want to do side exhaust.

Or you could buy one and have it painted. I think that Tousley Auto Parts some post on here has the bumper for a decent price.
I personally like dual exhaust with the cutouts. It looks cleaner to me. If your wallet allows for it sometime, I'd do it.

Re: 2000 v6 true dual exhaust kit?

I didn't feel like readin all the post so here you go.

MAC Long tubes
Mac H-pipe w/magnaflow cats welded in
Magnaflow catback to fit 99-04 GT, but NOT magnapacks.

You could also run a flowmaster catback, but the magnaflow has the most performance benefit.

You'll also need to extend your O2 wires, and I recommend jsut getting a tuner to turn off your rear O2's.

Go to Ford and buy new header gaskets, $7 a piece, and then buy a right side pre-axle hanger, and two tip hanger that sit right below the bumper. To egt it perfect on a v6 bumper will take some work, it's easier to just order a GT bumper and it will look very clean.

Here's my exhaust at around 4-5k rpm
