Nate's got the right idea, it is a datalog system that records certain EEC
functions. I'm not sure which ones but it's been around for a while.
Articles like the one above "assume" alot of things, and are written to
arouse fear. The best thing to do is ask a tuner, I'm sure there is something
you can do if you get a chip to fool/disable/affect the datalogging so as to
effectively disable it as far as insurance and law enforcement functions are
The basic intended functions of datalogging are great, allowing the technician
who services the car to know exactly what was going on when a code was
tripped, making the car much easier to diagnose, but Big Brother lurking over

It would be leagal to disable or reprogram it, because it is technically illegal
for certain functions of said datalogging to be used against the owner
anyway. Think of your computer, is it not yours and therefore legal for you
to alter and erase any part of it? Only if said records exist, and a court order
is issued may they be used against the owner. So you might as well get the
jump on "the system". Be aware and then you won't get bit! There are also

They can track his butt all the way from school, home, his GF's house and

If they really wanted to watch someone they could get really intense!!!
Remember the movie "Enemy of the State"? Will Smith was really under the
microscope... they wanted him BAD! IMO there is alot of truth to that movie.
