Posi and Gear

05 Stang - I'm looking for some more performance upgrades without going to F.I., got the tuner, CAI, exhaust, now I am unsure where to go next, wondering if anyone has their diff. upgraded by a shop and how much were the labor costs for such this job. If I was to go with a posi w/ 4.10 gears

Re: Posi and Gear

Just to be positive, I need the t-lok, pinion and ring, bearing set. Anything else I have to buy for someone to change this out.

the only other thing would be new fluid, but that's it. any shop around should be able to order and install the stuff for under $1,000.

Re: Posi and Gear

For fluid, royal purple friction modifier is good.

You can get it on American Muscle.

Yeah let me know how that turns out !!!!
do you have a 2/3 jaw slide hammer to remove the axles bearings/ bearing races for the pinion gear ???
a hydraulic press for the carrier bearings ????
disk brake tool for depressing the caliper piston ??
There's alot of things required like a 3 to 4 foot extension for the breaker bar to turn the pinion nut and good luck setting the preload on the bearings via the crush collar the amount of torque required to crush the collar is huge and if you **** it up you'll need a new collar

here's a tool list
Dial indicator
Gear marking compound and a clean brush
Calipers or a micrometer
Bearing pullers
Bearing press
Three foot long breaker bar or strong impact gun
Pinion nut socket
Ring gear bolt socket
Carrier cap bolt socket
Six point cross pin bolt wrench
Brake line wrench
Pry bars for removing the carrier case
24 oz ball pein hammer
48 oz sledge hammer
48 oz plastic dead blow hammer
Assorted brass punches
Punch for marking carrier caps
Oil drain pan
Foot pounds torque wrench
Inch pounds torque wrench
