what muffler sounds most like a v8 throughout the powerband?

flowmaster 50 delta?
mac flowpaths?

i have a system, i just wanna weld-in a more muscle-sounding muffler.

none will get you even close... the muffler cant make even fire into odd fire and add displacment and cam spec alterations... just go with a 2 chamber muffler and be as happy as you can be... i would steer clear of really free flow mufflers though they get a little to ricey, my flowmaster delta flow 40 series are ok till 3k rpms.

i like my original flowmaster 40s but I have true dual with 2 1/2 inch pipe cat back, with headers mounted on a 5.8L 351W. I agree with spector. you want the V8 sound, then drop in a V8. Not sure on how big the mustangs will fit, but i know you can drop a 5.0 in there

A v6 just isn't gonna have the V8 rythm. No muffler can change that.

I all depends on the mods you have. It is easier to get better sound with a 94-98 than a 99+

The fact is some will sound like a V8 at idle but once the rpms come up it will sound like a V6. If you have a big cam, P&P intakes and heads the sound is deeper even more.

Stock 99+ motor's sound better with MAC flowpath and Dynomax Superturbo's and Flowmasters. These are chambered They tend to buzz at Higher RPM's but at Idle they are meaner sounding than a Badger fighting a Grizzly bear. These can also drone at highway speeds. Stock 94-98's the drone is slightly worse but sound meaner with chambered

94-98 sound good with flowthru mufflers but without the buzzing at high speeds Magnaflows Borla's Dynomax Ultraflows are in this group

Now if you have P&P heads, Cam and intakes all V6's sound good so you dont need chambered to have good sound and Flow thru mufflers will free up additional HP

Spintech's sound good IMO, but I hear they're pretty heavy too. You're not going to get anywhere near close to sounding like an 8. I liked the magnapac's, I think they were...

It's all subjective though.

I didn't think dynomax superturbos droned very much. Do they? If so are they just a low drone or are they obnoxious like flowmasters.

I agree with Spector V no way to make an even fire engine sound like an odd fire engine, I have every mod you can think of ,3"exhaust with tundowns
sounds like a badass v8 when it Idles but as soon as you hit 2500 the V6 starts to come out ,I did however loose that raspy sound .

IMO you don't have a v8, so don't go for the v8 sound.. you have a v6, and it can sound awesome as a v6... and awesome FOR a v6...

I say flaunt what you have and get magnapacks

a lot of guys on other v6 forums have good success with Mac catback exhaust kits. They bolt right up to the stock Y pipe so you don't lose any back pressure (torque) like you do with straight pipes. They also apparently sound great. Mine should be in next week so I'll let you know!

You want V8 sound, get a V8. Other than that be happy with what you can achieve (sp)

All Cambered or Baffled mufflers can drone depending on design and placement. The act of droning comes when the exhaust pulses travel thru the maze of baffles or chambers the drone comes from a drumming effect that as the pulses are slowed down and the pulse expand and contract the muffler case. These pulses resonate thru the muffler vertically and into the car. The Dynomax Turbo's drone is almost nonexistant. The standard Flowmaster 40 drones the worse.

I've never heard anything but good things from ditching the y pipe...

nothing can replace the 2 extra cylinders. but quite honestly you can't really go wrong. anything is an improvement over stock and everyone has their opinions (as you can see). if you don't like the v6's sound because it sounds whimpy... there are things you could do to fix that... like a turbo, but you can't sound like an 8.
