i just got my cai, what would be best to do next? jsut suggest as if it were ur car lol. im thinking it should prolly be gears and tlok. and what kinda tuner?
gears and tlok would be good, tuner depends on what the shops support in your area, some people have a ton of sct shops around them, some have diablo... some have both, than you get to find which shops have the best reputation and than go with them
The next mod is based off what you can afford. If you don't have exhaust, you could do that for around $200-350 depending on the setup. Most stang owners do exhaust and a CAI as the first few mods. Exhaust is good for a few hp, but mainly changes looks and sound. You could buy a y-pipe "bolt on" system, or have a shop custom fabricate some piping with your choice of mufflers.
If you have more funds available, I'd do as you and bloodyspirit058 said, gears and a tlok. You need the gears, tlok, gear oil (friction modifier), and possibly a bearing kit if your car has higher miles. Parts should run you around $400, install could cost $200-500, depending on what the shop. I believe the 94-98 mustangs had a tooth gear driven speedometer, where the 99-04's were electronic. You should be able to adjust the speedo that way. A tuner isn't necessary, but will still wake up your car significantly since you're an auto.
so mufflers do gelp out in the hp area. i thought it was just sound. hmm, ill have too look into tht. how much would the ford garge pay to install geas and tlok.
They would probably charge more than your average shop would, but there's a better chance of it being installed correctly along with a written warranty.
I don't know the labor rate at the Ford dealerships, I'd guess it'd be anywhere from $60-75/hr.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your local Ford dealership may only install FRPP or OEM parts. You'd have to order ford racing gears and a tlok for them to install if that's the case.
Well, adding two pipes with less restrictive mufflers will help airflow. You will maintain your current backpressure if you stay with 2.25 inch piping. If you use an aftermarket catback, the mandrel bent piping will most likely be 2.5 inches. You will notice a slight loss in torque, that's just part of the larger piping.
Many times exhaust companies will claim 15-25+ hp when you add their system, but you're lucky to see 5-8 hp, 10 hp tops.
Just adding mufflers will get you 1-2 hp.
They are the best bet out of any other brand. They are probably the only brand your Ford dealership will install.
Say you have Motive brand gears installed at a local private shop. They whine terribly and fail a couple days after install. 11 out of 10 times the shop is going to blame you (the driver). They will claim your driving habits or racing was the cause. The only way to avoid this is to get a written warranty for the install and gears from a private shop.
It could've been the install, it could've been defective gears. Either way its a headache once something goes wrong.
That's why if you aren't comfortable with a local private shop, I'd get the Ford gears and have them installed at the dealership.
