Shifter clutch or tranny problem???

got the dual exhaust on, i have pics i just need to upload them to the computer, however i was told that they dropped the gas tank to do the exhaust install and then i started leaking gasoline and had to replace the gasket type thing at the neck of the gas tank, i get my car back and its a PITA to get it to go into first, like its a real struggle, and then ill be driving and i go to throw it into 2nd and the whole thing feels like its gonna fall right off the car... so im wondering if its like the shifter or bushings or more of a clutch or lord spare me a tranny problem.... it sux because i cant get it into first and then i cant spin them goin into second

do you have a clutch stop? If you can't get it to go into first that sounds like the clutch. However the clutch would have nothing to do with you not being able to spin into second. Does your car still accelerate well through first? One of the things I dislike most about mustangs is that when they get older it gets difficult to get them into gear (especially reverse). Perhaps that is just bad luck with the ones I have driven though.

That's what I'm wondering, I'd be holding the shop accountable for all these problems. That's just ridiculous, absolutely no reason to drop the gas tank at all.

I have never heard of a shop dropping the gas tank to install exhaust... 2:

It doesn't make any sense, it wouldn't allow access to anything that can't be accessed normally. And the pipes still have to clear the tank, whether they dropped it on install or not...

I would have a serious discussion with the people at that shop if I were you.

The gas tank isn't even the problem. It is the axle that you have to get the catback over.

is there alot more slack in the clutch, does it grab lower? if so you need to take out the slack in it cuz you aint getting enough disengagement... and you DONT take out the gas tank to install dual exhaust unless you are stupid...

it grabs fine i just cant actually get the shifter into first gear position... its like im mashing it into a wall, and i can still spin them in second its just scary trying to get them because it feels like the shifter or tranny is just gonna drop and be layin on the ground behind me

i was only told by my local shop that the people that did my exhaust probably dropped the tank, i dont know why they would do that, all i know is leaking gasoline on the parking lot at work wasnt nice, so i had to do something, and then i get my car back and struggle to move into first gear and im like if its not one thing its another.

sounds to me like the clutch cable is not right, your fork arm could be off the pivot ball stud, the cable could have to muchslack in it, etc etc the first thing to do is determine if your petal is lower than before, doe sit have more slack in it...? if so you can lift up on the under side and push it down slowly then repeat a couple times it should take up slack... should... ford parts suck so you never know, if this doesnt work there are other ways.... does it start to grab really low... or as it did.

if your fork arm is off you can just get under the car and look, i doubt it is but you never know, just push it in to pop her back on there... dont know WHY it would have been touched... go to the shop and ask them what they did to the tranny area..
